Moxi Vs. TiVo

Disclaimer:  Before you comment read the comments.  I sort of praised this product but apparently it has flaws.  I was looking at the good but not counting that there might be bad and comparing this to TiVo was unfair.  Read my retraction

Everyone has heard of TiVo right?  It's a DVR that records your favorite shows and learns your behavior so it records what it thinks you might like whether you want it to or not.  I personally have always wanted one until now.

I was looking at a previous post, you know, doing one last grammar and spell check and I saw the ad that was produced by Google and it showed this new thing called Moxi.

Moxi is a new kind of DVR service that is way better than TiVo or any cable or satellite service DVR you can get.  Why is it better?  Because all you pay for is the actual unit and that's it.  No monthy fees of $13 from TiVo and no monthly fees of much more from DirectTV or Brighthouse who both charge you for the monthly rental fee of the DVR plus a monthly service fee for the privileged of recording your shows.  Moxi doesn't charge you 1 more dime after you pay for their machine.  They even let you buy it on credit for $40 per month for 20 months.  They have the Moxi mates which are for your other rooms so you don't need a DVR in each room, you just need 1 DVR for the main room then a Moxi Mate for each additional room for $20 each (per month).  Actually if you buy the DVR and the Moxi Mate it's only $50 a month for 20 months.

I will break it down.  Moxi is $800 and each moxi mate is $400.  I won't sugar coat it.  But if you think about it when you buy a TiVo and if you keep it for all these years say like 10 years you are spending over $1000 just for their service.  That's after the $600 that you spent on the box itself.  So technically you are saving money and to be able to pay $40 or $50 a month for 20 months you aren't having to shell out a lot of money at once.

You have to look at their website (link above) before you say yea or nay.  This thing connects to your internet connection which means you watch watch your Hulu shows, Netflix queue, YouTube videos etc.  It even has games you can play.  Just watch the video at the Moxi website and judge for yourself.  I think it's a good investment because who wants the extra fee of having to pay to record your shows?

What if all of a sudden you have to cancel the TiVo service because you can't afford it anymore because of the economy?  You are left with a $600 paper weight.  You can't record anything on it anymore so what good is it?  With Moxi you don't have to worry about that.

Edit: Read the comments before you make your decision.

2009 Penny

I'm sitting at my desk getting ready to go to bed and I look at this clean shiny penny and didn't recognize the picture on it and the first thought that came to my mind was that it must be a Canadian penny.  I thought it was HRH on it.  It wasn't but more of a lumberjack.

I pick it up and examine it and the first thought was "wow, I can't believe it's so clean" because they are usually brown from being so filthy lol.  I mean right now it's sitting next to an old dirty one and it's so shiny and clean compared to the dull brown one lol.

2009pennyfront2009pennyback

Check it out, IN GOD WE TRUST is still there so not to worry all you Christians, it's still there.

And what's up with that lumberjack reading a book?  Why can't he be sitting there playing with his PSP?  What's he reading anyway?  Harry Potter and the Tale of the Beaver Tail?  Sorry it's the best I could do on such short notice lol.  I would've come up with something more clever had I known I was gonna blog about this so late at night.  If I had a few days to sit on it I would hatch out a better yolk lol.  Yeah that was bad too I know.  It's the ambien I swear lol.

Kwikset, Schlage locks send you email when door opened

Kwikset, Schlage locks send you email when door opened - Source Dvice.com

You just have to think to yourself that this is just too strange to believe.  First of all the cost to have this "door lock" email you every time someone unlocks your front door is $13 a month.  Second of all, why is that important to know?  I can't see myself paying $13 a month to get an email saying that I opened my front door.

If you looked at the article already you can see that the lock has numbers on it as well as a keyhole so I'm not sure if this requires either a key or combination or both to open the door.  It does look kind of cool in a strange doctors office kind of way but I don't know about it emailing me.

First of all can you just imagine a controlling husband who doesn't allow his wife to leave the house for fear of her cheating on him then to get an email saying someone just opened your front door is just too strange.  I've seen Maury Povich episodes where these husbands who beat their wives who also don't let them leave the house by locking them in the bathroom all day while he is at work because he is so insecure that he thinks she's cheating on him so his only solution is to lock her up while he's gone.  Can you just see the rage in his face, the pulsating purple vein in his forehead every time he gets an email on his cell phone saying his front door was just opened?

Yeah, I think this world can do without this product.  The lock yes, the email service no.

Dungeons & Dragons Online Gameplay

I was playing D&D Online for a few hours today just doing quests and it was kind of fun.  Since I'm not paying a dime for it, it was real fun hehe.  As I said in my previous post D&D Online For Free you get unlimited play for free.

I still haven't picked up all of the commands yet but some of them are similar to EverQuest such as you can type /sit to sit down, pressing i for inventory, m for map, space bar to jump... but there are other things that are different and some I just don't know how to do.

I figured out how to swim finally.  I remember when I first started playing EQ and my cousin wouldn't tell me how to swim so I kept drowning when I would accidentally fall in the water.  But all you have to do in EQ is press the page up to go to the top.  In DDO that doesn't work but I figured out that you right click the screen and move the mouse up so you look to the top of the water and just press the up arrow to go forward as if you are running but you are really swimming up.  Also they don't give you much air to breathe before you drown and die so a ring with the ability to allow you to stay under water for periods of time is a good idea but it only has 1 charge but it recharges over a days time.  I don't know if that is game days which could be an hour or 2 or if it means our days which is 24 hours.

I'm still working out all the kinks lol.  I don't really like having to play with the mouse though.  In EQ I could go up to a "mob" (mobile object aka the bad guy) and hit Q (or whatever I made my special auto fight key) then just move the arrows to keep me moving around.  In DDO you have to actually click the left mouse button to hit once but continue holding to continuously hit the target(s).  With my left shoulder hurting it's difficult to reach over with my left hand on the keyboard arrows to move around while using the mouse to attack.  I have the option of using the letter keys to move around but I prefer arrows, it's easier for me to remember which ones I have to hit.  And I can't use the mouse with my left hand.

Oh and it takes a long time to level but with only 20 levels maybe it's better that it does.  I mean who wants to get to level 20 in a day and then have all the fun sucked out of it?  There are 6 ranks in each level I'm in the 6th rank but the bar is somewhere in the middle so when I pick up where I left off it won't be long before I'm level 2 rank 1.

Well it's a fun game and if you play it or start playing it you can find me on Ghallanda as Xanapus level 1 cleric.  I only have 3 spells so far which I'm still getting used to so don't ask me for any buffs or to heal you because my buffs only last for a minute and I can only give you a heal of like maybe 5 hit points lol.

Scary ESP Story

Yesterday 9/11/09 was my aunts birthday so I called her up yesterday and had to leave a message on the machine.  I said it was me and I was calling to wish her a Happy Birthday and I said you must be at Disneyland or something, I was kidding.

So I just called back and my uncle answered the phone and he said that she was in Anaheim which is the city that Disneyland is in.  How spooky is that?

I was close but no cigar but still, she's in Anaheim which was where I said and I had no idea she was there.  What if she really is at Disneyland?

So he told me that she'll be home tomorrow so I'll call back tomorrow and find out where she was lol.

Merlin

So there hasn't been a new episode of Merlin for at least 2 or 3 weeks.  The last episode was 3 weeks ago on 8/23/09 so tomorrow will be the 3rd week in a row with no Merlin.  I checked the TV Guide website for the next 2 Sundays and it's not listed.

It's a shame too because Merlin was starting to come along.  They didn't show a season finale yet after 13 episodes or announce it was the season finale, they just stopped airing it.  Not even repeats.  If they still showed repeats then you know that it's still coming back but if they aren't even showing repeats then you know something is up, a possible cancellation maybe?

According to The Futon Critic, Merlin completed airing its current season.  Well that's odd that NBC didn't say "ok guys this is the season finale".  TV Guide has no news about Merlin either.  There are just 2 news articles, one of them has a picture of Merlin and Arthur but the news story is about True Blood lol which is odd.  The 2nd one is about how Americans like to "swipe and remake British programs" and that this one is authentic lol.  But nothing about whether or not the show is coming back or that it even went away for the season.

Well, if Merlin is indeed gone for the season then I will just have to wait until next season begins which is probably in June 2010 since this was a summer show.  Normally summer shows are 12 episodes and we got 13 so we should actually be lucky we got that at all.  I just wish they had told us that in the first place instead of just ending it abruptly.

Then again I always missed it on Sundays so I had to watch it on Primetime On Demand with Brighthouse Cable which allows you to find the show then watch it with limited commercial interruptions.  So really I don't know if they said it was the season finale or not lol.  So I can't really say they didn't say it because I wasn't watching it on tv to hear it so for all I know they could've said it was the season finale.  The only reason I say they didn't say it is because I looked at the comments that people left on the NBC website saying "where's Merlin? You left us hanging".  I had to search for it but I found the page that people were saying where did it go?  It was on the Episode Recap page.  Some quotes:

I love this show but what season finale? I have watched them all and looked forward to seeing them on Sunday evenings, SO is this it???? The story just got started...Please keep it on and keep going!!! - Lindy

DON'T cancel this show!!! It's fantastic and the characters have lots of room to grow. We watch it every week. - Greg

When is the next show? I have missed it the last 2 weeks - Patsy

there needs to be more Merlin. Please continue. I look forward to each episode, even though I am a grandmother of 3 teenagers. - Sandy

please bring back merlin I am lost without this program i am going crazy without it - Senior Age 62 (that's what this person said in place of name lol)

this show is awesome and i am sad that they stopped showing new episodes please bring more seasons and shows to come - Joe

Till next summer Merlin.
