Christmas is almost here

Well I decided to get out the Christmas tree from the shed and set it up.  I'm so excited that I can finally set it up.  The Christmas spirit has taken over my body hehe.  Here is a picture of our Christmas Tree from last year.  It's the same tree, a pre-lit tree.  I took a picture of our cat with her Santa hat on and made it into wallpaper for my laptop and my desktop.  Since my laptop is 1024x768 and my desktop is 1280x768 I have 2 versions of it.  So if you want to download it just click the little version below then it goes full screen, just right click it and save it to your computer.  The widescreen version isn't actually 1280x768, it's smaller but I have it stretched on my screen.

Toy Store Shooting

Yesterday I reported that there was a gang shooting in a Toys R Us in Palm Desert, CA where 2 people were shot.  Well the news just updated letting us know that 2 men who were shopping at the toy store pulled out their guns and shot and killed each other but they aren't sure if it is indeed gang related.

In other news, the amount of people who died in India yesterday have gone up.

Black Friday - 4 dead

Wow, what people will do for a deal.  2 people were trampled in a Walmart, security guard died.  As he was trying to breathe air he was killed by people trampling him.  A pregnant woman was injured and miscarried.  That's 2 dead in a Walmart.

2 people were shot and killed in a Toys R Us in Palm Desert, CA but it wasn't due to the black friday deals, it was gang related.

What is this world coming to?

Happy Thanksgiving

We just came home from Hometown Buffet.  The best place for 2 people to eat on Thanksgiving when not with family, in my opinion.  They have everything you could want for Thanksgiving and then some.

Old Glasses

The right arm on my current glasses broke and so I've been going without them because they have a prism in both lenses so if I try to wear them with 1 arm like Chip does then it really hurts my eyes so I've just chosen not to wear them at all.  I'm waiting until my check comes so I can buy my new frame for $35 so in the meantime I have to squint a lot to read, or close 1 eye.

I knew there was a good reason why I kept all my old glasses.  The black frames that I got in 2002 (I think) are a little scratched up but they are still in good condition.  I used a scratch remover to clean the scratches up a bit so I can wear them while I wait for my new frames.  I was actually sorta shocked that the prescription in these old ones weren't very different from what I have now.  My eyes change so often that every 2 years I have to get a new eye exam when I get my new glasses and so I thought that this prescription wouldn't be any good anymore but it works.

The previous pair that I had after these black frames but before my currect pair were too scratched up that I can't wear them at all.  But that's ok with me.  The arms on the black frames I'm wearing right now are a bit stretched though so I'm not going to just revert back to these glasses.  They are a bit worn out and so they are just temporary.  I'm starting to wish that I had gotten plastic frames again instead of the metal frames that I got last year because the plastic ones have lasted a lot longer than the metal ones so my next frame will be plastic again.

Steam Cleaner

Today I was trying to clean the carpet in my room and the hallway because of the dog peeing all over the house and it just wouldn't work.  The hand held thingy with the hose worked, I mean releasing the water and soap but just using it as an upright it wasn't releasing any water.  I finally ended up just using the hand held thing to put the soapy water on the ground then used the upright part to scrub the carpet fibers and suck up the water.

The last time I used it I cleaned it and it was fine sitting in the coat closet near the front door.  It worked the last time I used it, I don't know why this time it didn't work.  I did everything the book said to do in the troubleshooting section.  I didn't do the living room yet because I have to pick up in there and that will take a bit more time, there is more furniture in there.  But when I do go to use it I hope it works for me.

True Blood Season 1 Finale

Season 1 finale... not season 2 finale.

Tonight was the season finale of True Blood on HBO.  I was glad they finally found the murderer and Jason got out of jail.  Poor Layfayette didn't have a good ending though.  They ended it with Andy finding a dead body in the back of his car (poor layfayette).  He was such a good character.  Maybe he will come back next year as a vampire though.  The person who was the actual murderer of all the women including the grandmother was the last person I thought would be the bad guy and he deserved what he got.

At the end of the episode they said that they are currently in production for another season which will aire in the summer of 2009 so I'm glad this didn't get canceled.
Edit: Boy was I wrong, I thought for sure it was Layfayette in the back of Andy's car but thank goodness it wasn't.

Food Maxx

We've only been to Food Maxx a couple of times years ago and I never really looked at their prices before because they were low but not that much lower than Albertson's.  We went there yesterday and wow was I impressed by the low prices.  I think that we should start going there more often for groceries because like the Yoplait yogurt was .55 regularly when it's over $1 at Albertsons.

I've been buying it from Holy Cow only because it's cheaper from him than at Albertson's.  I'm still going to get it from Holy Cow to give him the business but I do want to go to Food Maxx for other stuff.  Chip goes through Yoplait like it's pudding, eating 4 servings a day.  I like to eat 1 serving a day, this way I get one for every day of the week.  When he runs out he eats mine and I only buy 14 a week, 7 for him, 7 for me.

Google 411

I just got an email about this.  It's new Google 411.  Wow, is google going to start making cell phones next?  Oh wait, they do!  What about microwaves or television sets or dishwashers?

Well, this new thing is actually a very good thing.  Before I had blogged about 411 calls now costing $1 per call and that you can call 1-800-free-411 but you have to endure listening to a 15-30 second advertisement.  But, this is even better because there are NO advert's and they automatically collect you to who you want to call.  I've added 1-800-goog-411 to all our handsets in the house and to my cell phone and you should too.

If you have a cell phone with internet or with maps or whatever they will send you a map for your GPS so you can get there and/or they will text message you the information you asked for but you have to tell them that.  Oh it's also a recording so you won't talk to a person but their voice recognition software is pretty good so you probably won't have to.  Hey, don't bitch about it, it's free.

Call 1-800-goog-411 or visit their website at www.google.com/goog411

10 Speed

I decided last night that instead of getting my bike fixed right away or when I get money I want to go to the thrift store where we saw that 10 speed road bike for $20 and see if they still have it.  I've wanted to have 2 bikes at the house so if Chip ever decides he wants to go bike riding for weight loss then we can go together.

I also wanted a 10 speed road bike because that's what the majority of the people are riding on the bike trail.  I think that a 10 speed is a lot faster because it's lighter and it will give me less pain in my legs, I think.

I still want to fix the handlebars on my mountain bike but just when I get the money that's all.  I don't want to fix it myself because I really don't know what I'm doing.  You gotta take the rubber grips off of the handlebars first and I just don't want to do that because they have the roadmaster logo on them.  I also would like to just bring it in to the bike store so they can look at it to make sure everything is in good condition.

My mountain bike can keep the lock on it and the lights with the generator because I might want to ride that to the store (when it's fixed) at night and I'll need the lights and the lock.  But I will transfer the computer over to the 10 speed and the frame bag.  The frame bag really doesn't work in the mountain bike because the frame is too small for a frame bag.  I was barely able to keep my water bottle on it because with the bag there the water bottle was sticking out and I've been terrified that it would eventually pop out into traffic.

I'm actually looking forward to getting a 10 speed road bike because I think it would be easier to ride and I think I would go a lot faster which would mean that I would burn much more calories.  If I went faster I could probably ride the 18 miles in a lot shorter period of time and burn a ton of calories in the process.  And rest less.  Yes, I'm very excited about this.

All things falling apart

Well, it wasn't bad enough that yesterday I had an accident and broke my handlebar stem and stem bolt but when we were at the pharmacy today I noticed the arm on my glasses were loose.  I thought I just needed to tighten the screw.  When we got home I screwed it but it was still loose.  It's the type of arm that has a spring so you can push them outward and they go back to normal.  I guess it broke inside the arm.

I called the optomitrist I got them from and they had to order a new pair and it's gonna cost me $35.

Then I went out to my bike to see if I can bend that piece of the stem that was bent but it is way too bent for me to fix, the metal is too hard for me to bend it with a pair of plyers.  I went to pick up a screwdriver and my old .99¢ light fell off the chair and broke lol.

I went to go online and I had no internet connection lol.  Anything else?  Sheesh!

Spoke Magnet

When I came home from the E.R. today I noticed that the magnet on my front wheel spoke was gone (magnet for the cyclo-computer) and so I went to eBay to see if they had any and they had 1 for $2 plus $1.51 shipping.  Even though my bank account is running low, I have about $30 left, I took the liberty of making a $5 bid.  If I can avoid having to buy a whole new computer just for a magnet then I will.

There were other magnets on ebay for $7 - $9 but with shipping costs that would make them come out to be about $12 or $13.  The computer itself at Target is only $15.  I'm not paying close to the same price for a new computer just for a magnet.

If I lose the bid on this then I'm just gonna keep checking ebay to see if someone else has it cheap.  If not then when I go to target for the gloves I might as well just buy a new computer.

Biking Accident

I had a little accident on my bike today.  I was riding up a bridge standing up and all of a sudden the bike shifted gears and my leg slipped off the peddle and I fell on my left side which broke the handlebar bolt.  I had to call home to come pick me up then went to the E.R. and was told that I tore a muscle and I can't ride my bike for at least 4 weeks.

I'm not giving up on it though.  I'm sure it won't take a month because it's feeling good right now but maybe a week or 2 I can take it easy.  But I'm changing my bike route so I don't have to deal with any of the bridges at all to get to the bike path and back home.

It's frustrating that this happened because I've gotten myself into a routine and now that routine has been broken but I'm confident that when I can ride my bike again that routine will come back to me.

Too cold

I was going to ride my bike this morning at 9am and I got out there and OMG it was too freakin cold.  No way am I riding in this bitter cold.

A Bicycle Built for Two

I suggested to Chip today that maybe we should get a bicycle built for two.  He didn't go for that one lol.  I think it would be cool.  We could have matching performance wear, helmets and we can have headsets for chatting.  And we can also use a Y adapter for my Dell DJ so we can both hear the same music while we ride.  I think that would be awesome.  This is what we would look like...

Bad week for riding

Well today I didn't get to ride at all because of the delivery mix up.  Since they finally showed up at 1:45pm I thought it would be ok to go out but I really prefer to go in the morning after breakfast.  I'd prefer to get it out of the way and not have to worry about getting too hot.  What am I going to do in the summer time?  Sheesh I'm gonna have to get up at 4am in the summer time.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with the neurologist for my carpel tunnel syndrome and that appointment is at 11:30am which means I'm going to have to get up really early to leave.  I'm usually gone for an hour and half, I could leave at 9am and be back at 10:30 so I have an hour to get ready.  I think I'm gonna do that.

But then on Friday I have a doctors appointment with our regular doctor for a regular visit at 10am.  There is no way I'm getting up at 7am to ride my bike lol.  I normally don't get up until 9:30am so I'm just going to go after my appointment, that is if I get home by noon lol.  We're usually gone for 2 hours even when we have an appointment.  What's up with doctors?  You come early and you end up waiting in the waiting room for 45 minutes AFTER your appointment time even if you were there half an hour early.

I know one thing is that I'm going to ride this Saturday and Sunday no matter what.  I know that I'm keeping my weight down (even though I'm eating a PB&J right now) but in order for me to really keep my weight down I gotta exercise as much as possible.  I'm talking about maintaining my weight loss as well as losing weight.  That's been my problem, I can lose about 10-20lbs but then I start to just maintain it.  Even if I am able to maintain my weight I need to keep going.

Delivery

I was supposed to get a package this morning and the driver rang the doorbell but the batteries in our doorbell are dead or dying so we didn't hear it.  They left a note saying they showed up but there was no answer and so I got a call from my pharmacy who delivered the package saying that they will call the delivery company about a 2nd attempt.  They called me back saying that I'd have to wait until 5pm.  I told them that the delivery company will have to bang on the metal door and I can't count on Chip being awake to get it for me so I gotta stay home until they show up.

I just hope they come before too long because I can't ride my bike if the sun starts to go down because I don't like riding it at night.  First of all the generator on the bike gives me more resistance, which isn't bad if I wasn't so heavy I guess because then it would give me a better workout but I would rather get that better workout when I'm thinner heh.

If I have to just end up staying home today and not getting any exercise that's fine I guess.  I know it's going to take at least a year to get this weight off so what's one more day eh?  This just means that I won't take Sunday off.  Normally I like to ride 5 days a week and take 2 days off but I don't mind riding 6 days.  I actually don't even mind riding 7 days but I do like to give my legs a break every so often to help recharge them.

I was just hoping that this Friday when I weigh in I will actually show that I've lost some weight.  I don't see any weight loss so far from last week.  I could weigh in every 2 weeks, it doesn't have to be every week.  I mean, actually I could weigh in once a month.  It doesn't matter when I weigh in, as long as I weigh in.  I would prefer not having to weigh in on a weekly basis because it makes me feel bad when I constantly weigh myself because I feel discouraged when I do weigh myself.

Edit: The package finally came at 1:45pm and I had plenty of time to go on my bike ride but just decided not to.  I like going at 10am when it's still early.

Reorganizing Music Again

It wasn't that long ago, like a week or 2 ago, that I had to download all the cd's from my Dell DJ mp3 player to my computer then fix all the tags then put them back on my DJ but when I did that I didn't count on the fact that their file names had something to do with anything.  For example.  If a song says 01 Politik instead of Coldplay - A Rush of Blood To The Head - 01 - Politik then when I go to make a playlist I'm not going to know who the artist is or even which CD that song is from.

Yes, I am really anal about things like that lol.  I don't know why, I just am.  But it's not for no reason.  When I ride my bike sometimes there are songs that are way too loud or they don't have any sound at all then I have to pull over in the dirt on the bike trail, pull the remote control out of the bike frame bag and push the next button.  I don't want to have to do that because it slows me down and brings my average speed time down too.  It's also annoying to be riding happily then all of a sudden a song blares into your ears and then they start to bleed lol.  Or you don't hear anything for a minute before realizing you aren't going to but the song is playing.  I don't really understand how that song got put in there.  Also there is 1 song that is in there twice from Uncle Kracker.  I don't know how that happened.

So, I'm downloading the music to my computer and I will reorganize the names and write down what is going into the playlist and look at each song with a microscope to make sure my ride is full of good music and not annoying music.

Actually, I'd also like to just add the popular songs from certain CD's, the ones that made it to the radio, this way I can cut down on the amount of songs in my playlist which is typically between 550 and 600.  It's not going to be easy to weed through them all though, it will take hours, possibly days.  Well, at least I have something to do lol.

Day off

I wanted to ride my bike today but Chip reminded me that I said that I was going to take the day off so I did.  Even though I really wanted to ride lol.  Oh well.  I probably should take the day off anyway because if I do this too much I might get too tired of it and stop.  I do like the routine of doing it everyday though.

When I was going to the gym 6 days a week in 2005 I had a routine for about 5 months and I wasn't seeing any results and I started eating junk food even though I was trying so hard to lose weight.  I pushed myself so hard at the gym then turned around and ate twinkies and cupcakes.  I don't want to make that mistake again.  That's the reason I quit going to the gym.  That and it took 2 1/2 hours just to get there on the bus then 2 1/2 hours to get back home on the bus.  I would've been better off riding my bike there, that way I'd get exercise on my way to getting exercise lol.

R&R

Today I decided not to go bike riding because I wanted to give my legs a chance to rest since I've been going such a long distance.  Tomorrow I will be going out again.  I'm just not sure if it's worth riding 17 miles a day while I'm still in this stage of still getting used to riding a bike at all.  I mean it's only been a month and even though I've seen 8lbs of weight loss so far I'm not seeing very much weight loss even with 17 and 18 mile days.  It's nice to go a long distance to really step it up and everything but I just don't see the results.

Now I realize that by me saying that I'm saying that I'm giving up on going such a long distance and I don't want to say that but at the same time I think I can just do the 11 miles and get away with it for now.  I want to burn calories but not at the expense of causing myself pain and possible injury to my muscles.  I'm probably going to notice no weight loss at all this week and that's possibly because I'm building too much muscle in my legs causing me to gain muscle weight so I don't see the fat weight disappearing.

The first month was only 8lbs and normally I would be upset by that because 7lbs isn't a lot to lose in a month, that's 2lbs a week but at this point I'm just happy to not be in the 240's anymore.  Being in the mid 230's makes me feel that if I can get there then I can get to 220's and so on but it takes time, a lot of time.  I need to stop worrying about the scale and stop thinking about it too much.

Tonight I decided that since I was weighing myself as 238 which is more than last weeks weigh in by 1 calorie that I would start eating salads for dinner, just to give me smaller calories for that meal of the day.  Breakfast I've been eating toast and a yoplait, lunch a peanut butter and jam sandwich or a ham sandwich.  Actually I've been eating 2 sandwiches but I'm going to limit myself to just 1 from now on and as soon as I get more yoplait's on friday I'm going to limit my breakfast to just a yoplait.  I love coffee but I'm going to try to limit that too.  Chip bought me this whole big thing of creamer so it's going to be difficult to not be able to enjoy it.  I'm thinking for now coffee every other day.  I have been drinking a lot of water though so that helps big time.  Not the sparkling bottled water with flavor that Chip has been buying from Albertson's but just plain filtered water.

Well, I'm blogging this just before bed, I've taken my ambien already so I'm gonna go do the litter box then get in the shower and go to bed.

17 miles

Today I did the same route but only did 17 miles.  The reason why is because yesterday before I went on my bike ride I rode the bike to the post office then back.  It's just 3 blocks from my house and I wanted to count that time that I rode because I'm greedy lol.  Anyway, here are my stats for today.

Distance 17.527, max speed 27.3, average speed 11.1, time 1:34:32, calories 813.7, fat calories 85.2.

Since this is going to be my route from now on this is going to be the last time I put my stats.  That is unless I decided to go further.  I'd like to just keep this as my current route just so I can lose enough weight so I'm lighter on the bike and I will go faster.  Once I'm faster then I can go further.

18 miles

Today I have broken my record of 11 miles by going 18 miles.  Here are the numbers from the computer:

18.290 miles, max speed 26.8, average speed 10.7, time 1:42:33, calories 835.7, fat calories 81.2.

My max speed could go up but as I've said before, the weight is what is slowing me down.  I'm 236lbs and that's a lot for the bike to carry.  As it is even with 20.7 pressure in my tires which is what it's supposed to have, they look like they are going flat when I am sitting on the bike.  That's definately heavy lol.  And I feel that that weight is what is holding me back from going faster.  But as the weight goes down my speed will go up.  I have faith that it will.  When the speed goes up then I will be able to go longer distance.  For now the 18 miles that I rode today will be my bike route.  I won't go further than that.

By the way, if you look at the map you can see the trail that I rode.  First off I rode from my house to Beach Park but that isn't on the map.  That's only a few miles.  But look at Beach Park on the map then find China Grade Loop.  That is where I went today.

More Rain

It rained this morning and I was going to go riding when Chip left for church but it was still raining so I just decided to stay home until the rain stopped instead.  He just came home so we'll eat then I'll wait 20 min before going out.

BAH it's still raining.  I'm gonna just have to wait for the rain to stop.

Bike Maintenance

Yesterday when I came home from riding my bike I tightened the gears on the handlebars and fixed that but decided today was the day I was going to do maintenance on my bike.  I wanted to get some degreaser and cleaner for the gears on the back wheel and the chain and scrub it all to clean it then put some new grease on it but I need Chip to take me to the bike store.  I don't want to ride it there because it's kinda far and I don't want to have to have bottles of cleaner and grease in bags hanging on my handlebars.  Yeah I know I could use a backpack but that's ok.  I'd rather be driven there.  I'd also like to walk through the store looking around and not worry that my bike is getting stolen.

What I did do today was I took the back wheel off because it has been wobbling and I know it's not supposed to do that.  Before I figured out how to fix it I noticed that the ball bearings were getting close to falling out.  That's not good.  I knew that I am lucky that I finally got around to fixing it because if it got any looser that I'd be in trouble.  I got it tightened but too tight so I had to loosen it hehe.

All fixed but not lubed up so hopefully soon I can get the cleaner and grease and get that done.

No Sweat

You know the old saying "No Sweat" which typically means no problem.  Well, in my case it is a literal translation.  When I'm riding the bike there is literally no sweat coming from my body.  The only thing that is wet on me is my collar and my hair as well as the helmet straps.  When I get home from my long bike ride I take off the helmet and let my hair dry and that's the extent of the problem.  I don't have to change my shirt or quickly take a shower because my body is drenched because it just isn't.  My body is as dry as a bone all except for my cranium.

I mean, I'm very grateful that I am not sweating and ruining shirts with the sweat stains or having to buy so much Degree for men that it will last me until eternity.

Maybe the weather is the problem.  Maybe since it's in the 70's outside when I go riding.  It's too cold for me to sweat.  In fact if I didn't wear a helmet made out of Styrofoam I probably would be completely dry.

So, I absolutly will not need bike shirts until Spring of 2009 when the whether is going to start getting too hot again,  I have faith that when it is so hot outside like 100 degree weather, I will be drenched just from typing this blog out.  Hmmm maybe I should wear bike shirts and shorts everyday in the summer lol.

O.J. back in court

O.J. Simpson and C.J. Stewart were back in court today in front of the same judge who sentenced them both to life in prison for attempted robbery.  They were both asking for a new trial because the foreman juror has been fired from multiple jobs for racial slurs.  So basically they are saying that they didn't get a fair trial because of race.  They are always bringing the race card in.

The judge denied their motion for a new trial and said see you in December for sentencing.

The judge denied a few motions today actually.  The lawyers for O.J. brought him a suit to wear and the judge said no he can't wear it, he has to wear what he came in which is his blue prison suit.  Then they asked if it was ok that he not be there because they didn't want him to be on tv without a suit and she denied that.  This of course was at the very beginning.  After O.J.'s attorneys asked about the suit issue, C.J.'s attorneys asked about the suit for him and she denied that as well.

11 Miles

Wow I thought 9 miles yesterday was awesome but today I surpassed that by going 11 miles.  I was riding for 62 minutes total.  That's awesome.

My legs aren't getting as tired as fast as they usually are.  I mean there were some points where I had to stop because I was going slower and so I knew if I stopped, got off the bike and drank some water and gave my legs a rest for a minute or 2 that I would recharge and it worked.  I'd get back on the bike and go 12-14 mph again.

I don't know where I was this time.  I will have to look it up on google map.  I saw a bunch of mobile homes.  There was a stop light ahead.  I just looked at the google map website and it was Manor st. where I stopped and started going back.

Anyway, here are the stats from the computer.  11.231 miles, 29.7 max speed, 10.9 average speed, time 1:01:54, 536.2 calories and 53.5 fat calories.

Tomorrow is my official weigh in day and I will update the image on the Spark page but I weighed myself and I was 236lbs.  I was 244lbs.  But it isn't official until I weigh in tomorrow after my bike ride.

Frustrated

I'm probably checking my weight too often but it just doesn't seem like I'm losing any weight.  This has been my problem though, I check my weight and I don't lose then I get frustrated and then stop exercising/dieting and go back to my old eating habits and idle behavior.

I do realize that since I'm building muscle with riding the bike that I probably am losing fat but just building muscle.  And since muscle weighs more than fat then that is probably why I haven't lost any weight.  I just have to stick it out for a bit longer and just not think about my weight.

Bakersfield's Bike Trail

9 Miles

These are what the cyclo-computer says.  9.014 miles, maximum speed reached (mxs) 27.0, average speed (avs) 10.7, time 50:35, calories 436.6, fat calories 43.5.

Boy are my legs swollen lol.  9 miles is the longest I've gone so far and I plan on breaking that record too.  What I did was I rode to Beach Park which took about 16 or 17 minutes (not including the times I stopped at the lights and had to stop to drink water) then once I was there I sat on a picnic table and rested my legs for about 10 minutes.  Then I got up and went on the bike trail and rode for about 9 minutes.  I was going to do 10 minutes but my legs were just killing me.  So what I did was I stopped and stood there for a few minutes and watched the 2 people on the 2 horses and waved then watched them pass me.  Then I got back on it and went back to Beach park where I sat on the bench at the trail entrance before going back home.

I just can't believe that I finally started riding my bike again.  I think this is so cool.  When I was a kid all I had was the bike, I didn't have the helmet or water cage with bottle or the frame bag with the tools or the computer.  It was just me on the bike.  Not even any protective gear.  And I also didn't have the extra baggage that I do now with all this weight.  That's one reason why I don't recall having any pain and swelling in my thighs.

Well, I just have to wait until I can do this all over again tomorrow and just hope that I go further.

It's too cold

I'm waiting for the heat to kick in lol.  I just went to my bike to the cyclo-computer to find out the temp outside and it says 49.5 degrees.  Hell to the no.  No freakin way am I going out bike riding when it's this cold.  But I'm dying to get it over with lol.

Why is it either too hot or it's too cold?  It's never in between!  The only time of the year that it's in between is 1 month before the summer heat which usually starts in May and 2 weeks after the heat is over in the end of September to the beginning of October.

Now, keep in mind that I love the cold.  I can't wait for the cold every year but when it gets this cold and I have a purpose for being outside then I'm not so sure about it anymore lol.  I do know one thing is for sure, I'm gonna need some bike gloves.  I didn't get them because they were a little much and I have bills to pay but now I think they are really important for my ride.  Especially when it becomes really cold and it hurts to hold the rubber grips on the handlebars.

Normally when I go bike riding I wear a regular t-shirt and a pair of shorts.  I don't wear pants or a jacket because it gets too hot for that.  Even when it's cold outside I still sweat in them.  And the ride is so long that my head is usually soaking wet.  Which is also not good when it's this cold outside because it could cause me to catch a very bad cold.  I'm going to have to wait until it's at least in the 60's outside.  That's what the temp usually has been the last few weeks that I've been riding and thats ok.  And perhaps if I have to wait until noon for the temp to be up that high then so be it.  I just don't want to miss out on riding because it's too cold.

Presidential Election

I was not going to post anything that has to do with the president at all because people get so uptight when it comes to discussing who our president is.  The Democrats always fight with the Republicans and vice versa and there is never a common ground.  They just get so mad and so this post is not going to spark up a debate.  At least here it's not because comments are disabled.

The point of this post is to show you how as of this very minute the votes were calculated from the whole USA and of course my county of Kern.  Ok so all you have to do is click the little image and it will open up to full size.

Prop 8 Undecided

I'm still waiting to find out about prop 8.  I heard that it's 55% for yes and 45% for no which is not good news but they said that it would probably end up in court again.  This issue is never going to die.  The christians are going to constantly be against us and it just shows gay people that we are still very much hated and we have so many more years before we will ever be accepted.  It just makes me so sick to my stomach that the people that I thought liked me ended up voting yes on this issue.  It let's me know who really like me and who doesn't and I will never look at them the same again.  I will also never step foot in a church again as long as I live knowing every single one of them voted yes on this.  A yes vote on prop 8 is a vote against gay people in general.  You can argue with me all you want but you know it's true.

Todays Ride

I decided that since I got a new cyclo-computer that I would go out today even though I went out yesterday.  I like to give my legs a days rest normally but I was too excited not to go out.  I wanted to see the exact amount of time I would ride along with the exact miles per hour and the exact amount of miles that I rode.  Before I would have to go to google to map out my ride so I can get an exact number of miles that it takes to go from the house to there and then back but this tells me all that information.  Also google maps doesn't let me map out the ride on the bike trail so when I start riding on the bike trail I won't know how many miles I went.

Well, today when I got to Beach Park the ride was only 16 minutes.  Normally with my other stop watch the ride is like 22 minutes but that's because whenever I pull over to get a drink of water or to rest my legs for a minute I don't stop the timer.  This new computer turns the timer off when you stop riding so I'm getting an exact reading of how long it takes me to get there.

I've been putting in the SparkPeople website that I've been doing 14-15mph and I was riding 12-15 mph today but it showed my average speed at 10mph so where it shows my calories that is reflective of me going 10mph.  So, when I added todays bike ride to SparkPeople I had to tell them I went 10mph.  I want to be as accurate as possible.

Instead of riding every other day I'm going to try everyday.  I figured maybe I could do 2 days on, 1 day off but I think that my legs are getting used to it enough that I can start going everyday.  This is my 4th week of riding the bike.  My first week I only rode to California ave and back which was 4 days in that week.  My 2nd week I only rode to Oak and Truxton and back and that was 3 days.  My 3rd week I made it to Beach Park and rested then came back and that was only 2 days.  Now my 4th week I'm getting to Beach Park and without resting going straight onto the bike trail but I only went a little distance before deciding to go back to the park and resting for 10 min before going home.

Now that I'm getting better I would like to spend 20 or more minutes on the bike trail (maybe 10 min out then 10 min back) then resting before heading home.  I'm actually really excited that my legs are getting better and getting more used to riding because as I've said before, I'd eventually love to ride for 2 hours a day.  The weight will definitely melt off when I'm riding for 2 hours a day.  Also I'd like to get to the point where that is 2 hours straight.

I'm actually excited about losing weight for the first time in a long time because I know that if I ride the bike on a daily basis I will definitely lose the weight a lot faster.  Now I just need to start eating better to make this weight loss go faster.  I'm trying my best.

Edit: Yes, I realize I was rambling lol.  I edited out some of the redundance lol.

Rawhide Sticks

When we went to Target today I bought some Rawhide sticks for Flower because she has been chewing everything in sight.  She has chewed so many holes in my comforter and pulling the stuffing out so I wake up most mornings with all this stuffing all over the bed.

Chip was afraid of giving her rawhide because she is such a small dog and he was afraid that the rawhide would splinter and she would get it stuck in her throat.  Which is a valid concern but this stuff when chewed becomes soft and it doesn't splinter.  He just hasn't had any experience with giving rawhide to dogs and so I can understand why he was worried.

But since I gave her one when we came home she's been chewing it and he holds it for her hehe.  It's so cute to watch him holding it for her.  She just loves it too.  So now I know what she will get for Christmas.  Now hopefully she will stop chewing everything including my shoes.

Cyclo-computer

Well I bought a Cyclo-computer today at Target with 20 functions.  Some of the fuctions are Odometer, speedometer, how many calories I'm burning, how much fat I'm burning, timer and many more.  The way it works is I put a magnet on one of the spokes on the front wheel and I attach a sensor to the fork then the wire goes up to the computer.  The computer is also removable so nobody will steal it when I go to the store.

I also bought a new lock while we were there.  It's a much better lock and it came with a bracket that attaches to the frame.  This new lock has a key so I don't have to worry about a combination and the spare key is in a drawer just in case I lose my first key.  If I lose both keys then I will probably lose my bike forever because this is the type of lock that you cannot open easily.

Raining

Well I was so looking forward to riding my bike today but it's pouring rain outside and I can't afford to get sick.  I'd rather be safe and dry and not get sick and be able to ride tomorrow as opposed to going out, getting sick then incapacitated for a few days or longer.

I remember as a teenager riding my bike home from school and the cars passing me would just drench me.  No thank you.
