Elf Marathon

The USA channel is replaying the movie Elf over and over and over again today for 24 hours straight.  Imagine, 24 hours of the same movie over and over and over again.

It was an ok movie, it wasn't wonderful, it certainly doesn't bear repeating 12 times in a row.  Come on USA channel, what are you doing?  Cable channels repeat the same movies over and over again in the same month so you know if you miss it when it's on you can see that it will be on again and you can wait until then.  Don't repeat the same thing over and over sheesh lol.

Corn Dog

Today flower did the funniest thing.  Since she's so small she can fit into tight places.  I went into my room to get my drink then I was going to sit in the living room and watch tv and Chip said hurry look and I see flower laying inside the arm of Chips coat.  I ran to the bedroom and grabbed my camera.

Walmart

Times are definately tough for a lot of people... ****EDITED****

I've already put an application in to Walmart via their website to be either a greeter or a stocker or checker or whatever they can use me for.  I'm actually looking forward to getting out of the house and going to a job so I can't wait and I hope they accept my application and hire me.  Even if I'm a greeter that's fine, as long as I get a check you know?

Google 911?

Recently I asked a Rhapsody question and got a response within 24 hours on my own blog straight from the horses mouth.  So... now I want to ask a question for Google.

This year I found out that Google had come out with 1-800-GOOG-411 to make free 411 calls.  Their service is so amazing, you call and it asks you business name, city and state.  You say like pizza hut bakersfield california and it automatically came up with a pizza hut on Stockdale hwy and said that it would connect me now or if I needed more listings to say so.  Awesome!  411 calls are outrageously expensive being that you get 3 free 411 calls per month but after that it's $1 per 411 call.  Thanks google.

But how about this?  I'm thinking about canceling my home phone service and buying one of the new Nokia Skype phones from Skype.com because it's only $3 a month for unlimited local and long distance calls.  I already got my goog 411 so now what about 911?  Skype doesn't offer 911 like Vonage does so how bout it google?  Are you going to ever offer that?

Google is a great company, I'm sure they can come up with an automated 911 service that asks you what your emergency is and you just tell the computer and then it asks you if you need a cop, fireman or ambulance and then it dispaches those services without needing to talk to an operator.  Or they could give you the option to be connected to the actual 911 in your city.

The phone company isn't going to last much longer thanks to internet calling like Skype and Vonage so if landlines are gone forever (sorry ma bell) then we need a 911 replacement.

Christmas Crafts

I was looking through a drawer today and came across some plastic canvas books that were given to me last year and there are 5 books with Christmas ornaments.

I'm going to try out some of the things that I have yarn for since I have a crap load of plastic canvas to work with but I don't have the yarn to do everything.  Some of these need gold thread which I don't have.

It's not all plastic canvas though, there is 1 book with filet crochet projects like an angel that stands up (which means when you finish crocheting I guess you put glue on it so it stands up.  And there are stockings and ornaments which are both crocheted and knitted.

One of the things I think is cool are the 3D christmas trees.  One of them is furry so it looks really neat.  It has little miniature ornaments sewn into the tree.

If my Kodak all-in-one printer didn't require ink to be able to scan then I'd have pictures available but I don't have any ink right now.  Maybe once I get some things done or a bunch of things done I will take pictures and put them in the crafts section of my main website.

Video Phone

The future is now people!  It finally happened.  A company has come out with a video phone that you can use to make free video phone calls.

Here is a demo.

It looks like you can make skype to skype voice calls as well as video calls.  The other person doesn't have to have this device as long as they have Skype on their computer and a webcam.  And I saw on the demo that you can also make calls to landlines and cell phones.

It either plugs into your DSL/Cable router or you can use it via your wifi connection at home.  It comes with a battery so maybe you can take it with you when you are on vacation and your hotel has wifi access.

It does have a hefty pricetag on it.  $299.95 but I'm sure in time that price will most likely go down.  It may have a small screen, 800x480 Pixel 7” TFT-LCD, but what are you expecting?  If you are using Skype to make video calls on your computer you will know that it's 320x240 which is way smaller than this gadget.  And it has headphone jack so you can have a more private conversation.

Just think what you could do with this.  You could connect with friends and family and not just talk to them on the phone but actually see their faces too and if you hate to travel for business it could be used for meetings.

Since it's a free video call what would be really cool is to call someone on their video phone at Christmas time and just have it running and have the camera looking at the kids who are opening presents.  This way the people who couldn't come can watch the kids playing.  And whenever someone wants to come say hi to the person on video phone then they can walk over to it.

You can sit it on the dining room table and be eating while the person on the other side is also eating.  This way you will be sharing a meal.  The possibilities are endless.

Video Post

Hey, what a cool widget.  Not only can I make a video post using a webcam attached to my computer but someone who is replying to a post of mine can respond using their own webcam as well.  All thanks to a company named Kaltura.

Skype vs. Vonage

I've been seeing these commercials for Vonage constantly on tv about how they are better than the telephone company because they only charge you $30 per month and you use your current internet connection to connect to your phone service.

What about Skype?  Skype has phone service that works with your wifi connection and it's only $2.95 a month.  Since it works with your wifi connection at home you can also use it at wifi hotspots like the cloud (whatever that is) and t-mobile hotspots. They have a USB phone, 2 wifi phones, even a video phone. You can call anyone who uses Skype for free if you only want to call other Skype users.  Or you can also call landlines and cell phones for $2.95 per month.  You get a phone number that only costs $30 per year.  Their best phone is the black wifi phone that is on sale right now for $129.99.

They have a phone that is currently only in europe right now that uses the 3G network but I guess you can use it like a cell phone because you can make a call anywhere, you aren't limited to wifi hotspots like the ones I just talked about in the above paragraph.  I look forward to that coming to the states.

Right now I use skype on my PSP to make phone calls.  I don't have a phone number for it but I do have the option and since I am signed up with their unlimited calls to US and Canada they have given me a $30 coupon for a phone number for 1 year.  I don't want to use it for my PSP because I won't have it turned on long enough to receive phone calls.

Personally, if I had to choose between Vonage and Skype, I'd choose Skype, especially if I was on a budget.  Also I can take my Skype wifi phone with me wherever I go because it will work wherever there is a hotspot like Starbucks, McDonald's, Hotels, Airports, your friends and relatives houses etc.  With Vonage you are limited to only being able to use it at home.

Edit:  Ok I was looking at the Skype phone on their website and was watching a video (take a tour) and it was saying "for just pennies a minute".  So maybe you have to do the skype as you go or I don't know, maybe it works with the monthly subscription.  The only way to know for sure is to get the service and find out I guess.  Skype as you go gives you a bit more freedom to be able to call other countries if you have to call people who are in another country and you only pay a few cents to about 20 cents a minute depending where you are calling.

Oral-B Advantage Floss Picks

Todays newspaper had a new Oral-B floss picks with a coupon for $1 off. I used it right away and was pleased at how easy it was able to go between my teeth. Those flossers usually snap when I use them.

This definately will make me floss more often.

Rhapsody Music Service

I'm hoping that someone will see this and respond to me.  I would like to know something about Rhapsody from Real.com that they aren't telling me.  When you pay the $14.95 per month do you have to pay to download mp3's?  I see that they charge .99 cents per song or $8.99 for the album.  When you pay their monthly fee do you still have to pay that or is it half or free?  The reason I'm asking is because it says in the description under the $14.99 plan "buy albums".  It doesn't say buy full price, half price or get for free.  The commercials say that you get all the music you want for the price of 1 cd per month.  So if that is true then the albums should be free.  Or is that false advertising.

Before I spend a dime I'd like to know.  If it costs $15 a month plus I have to pay .99 cents a song I think I'm entitled to know this before I give them my credit card information because I can just use iTunes and buy the full album without paying a monthly fee.  If someone can please respond to this I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.

Pez Dispensers

This Christmas I was given 3 new pez dispensers to add to my growing collection.

I actually started this collection in 1999 when Star Wars Episode 1 came into theaters and the stores started selling the Star Wars pez dispensers.  I decided to buy each individual pez dispenser which were just under $1 I think.  I can't recall.  But when we got home I didn't have any place to put them so I placed them side by side on a very large mirror which was on the wall where my desk was so as I sat at the computer I'd be looking at pez dispensers.

I told a few people about them and next thing you know people are sending them to me in the mail and when I visit people they are giving me these pez dispensers.  I never asked for them but I won't refuse it either lol.

All of a sudden I had a huge amount of these little things that I went to the hardware store to buy wood to make a shelf and found these really thin and small pieces of wood so I got a bunch and some little nails and built me a shelf.  When we moved to Bakersfield in 2000 I put the shelf up in the kitchen right next to my desk and at first there were maybe 20 pez dispensers but now there are 104 pez dispensers on the shelf in my bedroom.

I have 5 pez dispensers that are in their original packaging (although the packaging is getting too old and is tearing) because they have no feet which means they are valuable.  And I have the 3 newer ones still in their tin which I will never take them out of because again, it gives them value.  When I think about it I should've never taken any of them out of their package but that's ok, what's done is done.

Here is a picture of all the pez dispensers on the shelf as well as the new ones in their tin.  Click the image below for full size.

DJ Battery

Since my Dell DJ battery is too big but it still works I have to just keep it on the outside lol.  I have a neoprene camera case that it fits perfectly into and I had it out because I was adding a CD to the   and all of a sudden it shut off and I looked and one of the wires snapped off where it had been soldered.  Needless to say I'm not happy because when I start riding my bike again I will have no music to listen to unless I can find someone with a soldering iron.

Too cold for our cat

Our cat has been living in our patio which is sort of still being outside without being inside.  It gave her some freedom of being outside but at the same time she couldn't leave the property and roam around the neighborhood.  It's like she had her own room lol.

It's too cold now, about 35°F so she's decided it's too cold, I need to be in the house again.  While we were in San Diego I kept her in the kitchen, although she found a way to escape so she could roam around the house.  But now that it's too cold she's going to stay inside until at least February or March when it starts getting warmer again, at least in the 50's - 60's.

Bad CD

On Sunday, the day before we left for San Diego, I burned a bunch of CD's from music that I bought online (mp3's for my mp3 player) so that we have some good music to listen to during our ride and I was totally disappointed when one of the CD's didn't play at all.  It was the latest Backstreet Boys CD called Unbreakable.  The 2nd song played fine but all the rest of the songs didn't play at all.  I don't know what happened.

I also burned the Charmed Final Chapter CD which I love personally because the songs remind me of the show which I miss.  Chip wasn't into that CD though and there were 2 Buffy the Vampire Slayer CD's that I put in the cars CD player (it holds 6 discs) and I didn't bother playing those because if he didn't like the Charmed one then forget about the buffy ones hehe.

I think I'm going to start up the thing with Yahoo where you pay $15 a month and you get unlimited music downloads as opposed to having to pay $15 and get 15 songs from iTunes.  I will most likely only get a few CD's here and there and not that often but who knows.

Back Home

We got back home today around 5pm.  I was so glad that my cat was ok hehe.  She apparently escaped her prison cell (the kitchen) by pushing on the door hehe.  She's never tried that before so she always stayed in the kitchen when we go out or when we lock her up all night long.  I bring her in from the patio at night so she doesn't freeze to death and I have to lock her in the kitchen because the dog eats her poop from the litter box so she's used to being locked up in the kitchen by now.

We had some left over Rum from the fruitcake so when we went to the store tonight we got somie Egg Nog and so I had an egg nog with rum which is rare for me because I normally love egg nog by itself.  Wow I put so much rum in it and it was only like 10% of the glass lol.  I ended up having to water it down with tons of egg nog lol.

Well, I'm glad to be home now.  I'm looking forward to buying a new bike wheel so I can start riding my bike again.

More fruit cake?

When Butch (Chip's brother) came home from work what was he carrying? A fruit cake hehe. Well it's bed time, I've taken an Ambien, I'm going to start reading a very good book a very good friend gave to me for Christmas. I will blog more tomorrow after the days events.

We arrived

After 5 1/2 hours in the hot car holding a hot chihuahua we arrived in Lakeside (San Diego). We had to have the heat on because of the cold from the rain and the defroster to keep the windows from being foggy. A lot of the trip was foggy but not because of the windows. There was snow on the ridge. I was told to mention that. Well since I'm using my PSP to blog I'm going to cut this short.

Fruit Cake in the making

WOW! I knew there was a lot of ingredients but this is a lot. The fruit and nuts are soaking in rum right now for 3 hours then I get to mix the rest of the ingredients. It's 5lbs. which if sold at a specialist bakery would be $100. So I'm at least satisfied with that. I really cant wait for it to be done.

Hours later...

The fruit cake is in the oven for 3 1/2 hours.  I'm looking forward to taking it out and tasting hehe.  By the way, I said earlier that the fruits and nuts were 5lbs.  Well, with the batter it's over 7lbs.  After I put the fruit cake mix in each aluminum container I weighed them (there are 3 cakes) and they are about 2 3/4lbs each.

Update: 1 1/2 hours to go.  Boy does it smell so good.  I keep looking at it and see it rising and see the color of the cake getting darker and just the smell makes me want to just take it out of the oven early and just take a slice.  But I gotta let it cook all the way because if I don't it's not gonna taste right lol.

Update: Ok, I guess I forgot to update this post way back when but the fruit cake was a complete success.  I followed the directions completely and it over cooked just a little so it tasted a little burned but that didn't stop it from doing a disappearing act real fast.  Next Christmas I'm going to make this again since it was such a hit but not cook it for the exact complete time that it said.  Maybe slice off (pun intended) half hour.  Just to make sure it doesn't get burned.

New Crafts

I haven't been able to do crafts since around November or December 2007 because my hands would get numb and I would even feel some pain when crocheting in my wrists so I was forced to give it up.  Not too long after that I was diagnosed with carpel tunnel syndrome after harping on my doctor every time I went 3 visits in a row.  He told me it's probably carpel tunnel but sent me to a neurologist to get a proper diagnosis.

Ever since then I haven't been able to do any crafts at all.  I've had to wear wrist straps every night to bed which helps for some strange reason.  Also not doing any crafts helped too.  I still type because I don't feel that I can use voice recognition because when I do talk my voice is carried into the living room so nothing is private.

Since I haven't been doing ANY form of crafts I've been going nuts.  Last week I picked up a crochet hook and some yarn and started crocheting.  I've actually done a good amount of a new blanket.  I went looking in my closet to see if I had more of the avocado color but instead I found these embroidery Christmas stockings that were given to me last year that I knew I couldn't do.  I gave 1 a chance and so for the last 2 evenings I've been working on it and I have to say it's not as hard as I thought they would be.  I'm actually having fun with it.

My left hand has been getting numb while holding it and my right hand was getting a little bit of pain here and there and so when I get the numbness and pain I stop for awhile.  This stocking obviously will not be finished within the next week and half so I'm going to just keep working on it at my own pace and hopefully it will be done by next year.

There are 3 stockings (below) and I would eventually like to have them all done but I gotta do baby steps here lol.  1 at a time for now.

Cost of a fruit cake

I just cannot believe how much it costs to make a fruit cake.  Now I know why those things are so expensive.  Dang $51 so far and I still need eggs and margarine.  By the time I have all the rest of the ingredients it will be $55.  I just hope that it makes a whole lot of fruit cake.  It better.

I wanted to make it so bad because I can never find it in the stores and when I find it online it's so expensive.  A 1lb cake is $25.  I'm sure that I have about a 10lb cake so far lol.  I'm going to have to split it up into a few smaller ones because fruit cake doesn't have a very good reputation.  I bought these small loaf pans that have lids (disposible pans) and there are 3 in the pack so I can make 3 small.  I also have a regular size loaf pan which I'm going to start with then put the rest in the smaller ones.  I want to bring the small ones because I know that people are going to waste big slices if they don't like it and it's too expensive to throw away.

All I know is if I see 1 piece of fruit cake in the trash I'm gonna lose it lol.  Just kidding.  Maybe lol.

Bromosexual?

Ok, what?  When did this happen?  When did they start saying Bromosexual?  What the hell does that mean?

I was bromo-curious to find out what this meant so I just went to the yahoo search engine and typed bromosexual and got this...

Urban Dictionary: bromosexual

ROFL what the... these people that come up with words...  And the person who said it was Ryan Seacrest.  Need I say more?

Skeletal Remains Found in Florida

Skeletal remains of a little girl found in Florida not far from Caylee Anthony's grandparents home.  They think that it might be the skeletal remains of Caylee Anthony, the little girl who was murdered by her mother allegedly in June 2008.  Notice I said allegedly?

Casey Anthony who is in prison right now for the murder of her daughter will probably get the death penalty.  They took that off the table but it can be put back on the table.  They are also testing the duct tape that was used to cover the child's mouth with for finger prints on the glue as well as the duct tape that was used to wrap the little girl with a plastic bag.  When they finish looking at the finger prints they will know without a shadow of a doubt who killed Caylee if it is her.  Also they said there is still some flesh on the skeleton so they can probably do a DNA test to make sure that it was Caylee's body.  I guess they would do like a maternity test by comparing the DNA of the body with the mothers DNA.

Even though this is good news for everyone to find the body it is still bad news knowing that poor Caylee is not still alive.  But it is not a fact that this is indeed Caylee until the autopsy has confirmed who it is.  The skeletal remains have been sent to the FBI office for study.

Oh one more thing, they said that they found out that there was Chloroform used, they determined that by the smell inside the bag and they talked about how Casey Anthony was doing a search on the internet for Chloroform.  The Fox News team were saying that it is not uncommon for parents to use Chloroform on their children to put them to sleep if they cannot find a babysitter.  WHAT!?!?  Not uncommon?  Holy cow!  What's going on in this world?

Update: I saw on the Fox News ticker just now that a utility worker who was going into those woods to take a leak found the bag and picked it up and a skull fell out.  The skeleton was found 1/2 a mile from the grandparents home in Florida.

Day Without A Gay

Today is Day Without A Gay day.  That means that all the gay people are "supposed" to call in sick (or gay) and not work today and not even spend any money today as a form of protest because of Prop 8.

I don't really have to go to a job every day so that isn't a problem for me but I do support this protest.  For example, I barely have any food in the pantry and fridge but I will eat tuna and egg salad sandwiches for lunch and dinner if that means I am helping out.

Recycling Numbers

Today we went to turn in our plastic to recycle and found out that different plastic containers have different numbers and they cannot all be recycled together.  See I never knew that.  I found this website that shows you what the difference is.

What do those recycling numbers mean?

I had all these different types of plastics.  I had clear soda bottles, milk cartons, yogurt containers etc. and they had to seperate the clear bottles with the rest.  The clear soda bottles had the 1 on the bottom inside that little recycle symbol.  Those get you more money than the other ones which were 2 and up.

We had basically half number 1 and the rest were 2-6.  When the guy gave us the reciept it showed us how much each plastic cost.  The plastic with the 1 was a lot more than the rest.  I think it was $7 something for all the number 1's but all the rest we got like .45 cents and that's it and it was half  number 1 and the other half was all the rest and that rest was less money.  So basically it's not even worth recycling the rest.

They basically told us that it's a waste of time to save anything but the number 1 plastic as well as even paper.  The reason I am recycling isn't for the money although it helps in todays economy but also because those brita commercials where they say like 30 minutes on a treadmill, forever in a landfill.  Those make me feel guilty for buying anything that comes in plastic or anything lol.  But, you know if they are so concerned with it then they will have a machine that goes through the trash cherry picking all the certain types of plastics and paper etc.  Chip told me that he read in the newspaper that there is like a mountain of recycled paper that they are having trouble getting rid of, that's why paper is so cheap to recycle.  That's probably also why the plastic that isn't number 1 is cheap.

I'm not saying to not recycle because the CRV items like the soda bottles/water bottles and soda/beer cans give you a lot more money but I'm certainly not going to waste our patio space recycling milk cartons and yogurt containers and other plastics anymore.  I'm going to find out about steel cans too before I waste any more time with those.  I want to save the planet but at the same time if they don't want to recycle certain things then it's out of my hands.  I can only do so much by using the cloth grocery bags and recycling plastic and aluminum.

Just Don't Lick Me There!

Fruit Cake

I plan on buying ingredients to make Fruit Cake for Christmas.  But, instead of just doing it the traditional way by either making it like a loaf in a loaf pan or doing a circle with the middle missing, I'm going to do a loaf but then cut it down the middle then cut the 2 pieces down their middle so it's 4 long pieces so when you slice it, it comes out like cracker sized.  This way if people aren't sure if they like it or not then they can just get a slice to taste it.  This way people aren't taking these huge pieces of fruit cake then taking a bite and realizing how gross it is then throwing the rest of it in the trash.  That would piss me off considering how expensive they are.

Now, when I say "how gross it is" I'm speaking purely on other peoples opinions of fruit cake.  I like fruit cake.  I've loved fruit cake since I was a kid so to me it's not gross at all.  Frankly, I don't know why people would even give them as gifts at Christmas time considering how expensive they are to buy.  They are also a little expensive to make, not as much as if you were to buy one but still expensive.

But cutting them in cracker sized slices is a good idea, I think it is.  You can probably also make cup cake sized fruit cakes so they are individual and you can use the cup cake paper things so you don't have a huge mess.  Hey that's a very good idea.  I'm also thinking of putting some german chocolate cake frosting on the top of the fruit cake to disguise it a little lol.  I'm sneaky that way.

Bike Light

I think it was the day before yesterday or something but I noticed that the light generator wasn't touching the tire when you flip the switch and so I fixed it and then checked out the lights to make sure they were ok by pushing the peddles.  I noticed that the back red light was working fine but the headlight wasn't working at all.  I flipped the bike upside down and pushed the peddles with my hand to make the back tire turn and the light was just not coming on.

I took the light fixture off the bike and took it apart to see if the light bulb was just out and when I went to turn it to remove it the glass part came off and the metal was just not unscrewing at all.  I'm pretty sure it's because the light set that I bought was old, it was made in 1991.  I searched high and low trying to find a new bulb, I went to Albertson's, no go.  I went to Walgreens, not there.  I figured that maybe an auto parts store might have them because they have little tiny lights too but alas the car lights were the same size but no threads.  The guy at the counter told me to try Home Depot or Floyd's hardware store.

I decided that since I can't use my bike anyway I might as well wait until I can to worry about it.  But then I noticed a halloween tap light sitting in a drawer and noticed that the light bulb looked the same.  I unscrewed the 3 screws on the bottom and was able to unscrew the bulb and sure enough, the exact same light bulb.

I brought it to the bike area (this was yesterday) and screwed it in and flipped the bike over and plugged the wire into the generator and pushed on the peddles but unfortunately it didn't turn the light on.  I put it back in the tap light and put some batteries in there and tapped it and it turned on just fine.

I went searching in a computer drawer with old computer stuff and found some old mic's from when I got my first computer and never used the mic's and was all ready to strip the wires to use it but it was late at night and I couldn't find my scissors so I waited until today.  This morning after Chip went to church I got up and went out there and my scissors were by the bike so I got all the stuff ready and sat down on the stool out there.  I tried it one more time with the wire that came with the light set but this time I stripped the wire that touches the light to see if it was just messed up there but no go.  I then thought, well what if the light has to be on the bracket on the bike frame so I just placed it on there and turned the peddles and sure enough the light came on.

At this point I'm not quite sure if it's just sheer stupidity or if my ADD is really that bad lol.  At any rate I'm glad I finally figured it out and got one more problem out of the way so I can get back on with my life.

Decorated!

The house is finished being decorated.  The tree up, all ornaments on it, the wreath on the door with the plastic canvas candy cane I made for it.  It's all done finally.  I've been putting ornaments on the tree here and there because standing for a length of time hurts my back so I can't be decorating constantly until it's all done.

We're not lights on the outside people so that's not a problem.  I wish we were but I'm just afraid that in this neighborhood someone will come along with a knife and cut the wires if they are low enough to be able to cut.  I know, paranoia right?  Wrong!  One morning I came outside and saw that our hose which was rolled up in the planter was cut and it was a significant amount of hose too.  I went to walk to the store and saw the piece that was cut laying on our grass.  I don't give anybody in this hood the benefit of the doubt.  They don't deserve it.

However, we do have an indoor patio which is actually kinda sorta outdoors.  It's the space between the house and the garage, it has a wall in the front of the building with a door and the back with a giant window and a door so it's pretty much closed off.  Chip bought 2 boxes of lights that he wanted to hang out there, not for holiday decoration but just for regular decoration for mood.  Tonight when I was at the store I picked up these holiday light hanger things that have nails and you hammer the nails into the wood then you just press the wires into the plastic and it holds the lights.  This way if you decide to take the lights off you can then when you want to put them back up you don't have to do anything, just push the wires back in.  It's really cool.

Bad Luck

I have the worst luck of anybody in this whole universe.  I don't know what I ever did, maybe my karma sucks really bad.  I went to ride my bike for a minute or 2 so I could see if the bent tire would be ok and as soon as I opened the back gate then set my bike up with the kickstand so I could close the gate, the kickstand went back in and the bike fell and guess what?  My brand new rear view mirror broke right off.  So now I need a new one.  I've had bad luck with crazy glue and plastic.  If I glued it with crazy glue then every time I adjust it it will fall off.  ARGH!

Front Wheel

I got my bike all fixed up and stuff and I just spun the front wheel and apparently it's bent a bit.  I just spent $76 today and I really can't afford to buy a new wheel.  I'm sure that I will be fine with a bent wheel until I get my next check in January.  I probably won't be able to ride my bike for a week anyway so when I do start up again I can just ride with a bent wheel for awhile.  I'd rather not ride with a bent wheel but there really isn't that much I can do about it for right now.  All I can do is just be very safe when riding and hope nothing goes wrong lol.  Or just not ride at all until I get a new front wheel.  This is all costing more than the bike is worth lol.

"Stuff"

We went to Snider's Cyclry today to get the parts for my bike.  I got a new stem that has an extension so that my handlebars will be high enough so I don't have to raise them as much to get height.  I also had to buy new hand grips because in order to take the old stem off and put the new stem on I have to take everything off the right side of the bar to slide it through.  I don't really have to take the grip off the other side but then it will be lopsided so I really kinda do have to.  All that was $25

Then we went and got my glasses frame which was $35.

And lastly we went to Target to buy a new computer because the magnet fell off the spokes when I had my accident and when I was putting the bike in the car today to go to Snider's the wire snapped so I needed a new one.  But instead of buying another 20 function computer for $15 I bought the 12 function because I don't need that computer, just the parts.  The 12 function computer was only $10 and I would've spent that on the magnet plus $2 on ebay which would've been a total waste of money.  While I was in the bike department I bought a new rear view mirror that goes on the rubber grip on the outside of the bike, not on the inside so I will now be able to see and I bought gloves with the tips missing.

Rosie Live...

Rosie Live... More like Rosie Dead.

When Rosie O'Donnell was doing movies I liked her.  She was a pretty good actress and a pretty funny comedienne too.  I really enjoyed watching her movies and stand up comedy.  Then she came out with her daytime talk show.  Chip and I watched it every single day, it was a standing appointment for us, we made sure we watched her show and we both laughed and we thought she was the greatest human being for all the things she did for people on her show.  She was constantly giving prizes away every episode.  Not just whenever but all the time.  She would shoot those things at the audience during the show and she was on top of the world.  Then all of a sudden she got tired of it and quit and basically handed it over to Ellen Degeneras.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Ellen's show too but it's a different respect you know?  It wasn't as flamboyant as Rosies.  Like Rosie had the desk and it was covered with stuff.  Her set up was like the Tonight Show with the desk and chairs.

Then Rosie went on the View for a year.  Boy what a year that was.  All of a sudden she was pushing her views on everyone and not allowing anyone to disagree with her without her temper flaring out.  You know, it's one thing to have an opinion and feel strongly about it but when you get into a fight over your passion for it then it's no longer a talk show.  And remember, every action has a reaction.  Let's say for example the fight between Rosie and The Donald.  What was that all about?  I mean come on.  That year on The View basically ruined Rosie's career.

Now she started to go back to the fun days of having a variety hour show which I used to like in the 70's.  I loved the Osmond hour and the Sonny and Cher show.  I loved those shows.  I don't seem to remember the brady bunch variety hour.  It's a very vague memory.  And apparently so is the new Rosie Live show because after only a few episodes it's being canceled due to bad ratings.

I personally haven't seen it yet.  I don't even know what time it comes on.  I have a regular schedule of things that I like to watch every weekday and I think that her show cut into that time frame.  I hadn't planned on watching it though.

I did like Rosie so I don't want this to sound like I'm putting her down because I'm not.  I'm just saying that her actions on the view is what destroyed this new chance at a future career in this industry and in order for people to forgive and forget she's gonna have to do a lot of ass kissing and start apologizing for pushing her view on people who have their own opinions and are passionate about that.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I have views that I'm very passionate about like gay marriage.  I get so upset when I hear people telling me that I have no rights to get married just like a straight person does but I'm not going to let it rule me.  If straight people don't like me getting married they have that right to think that.  But I also have a right to tell them to shove it up their ass.

Skill going to waste

When I was 17 years old and my sister found me in Simi Valley after being homeless for nearly a year and let me move in with her I decided that after seeing my first boyfriend Robert crochet that I wanted to learn how to crochet too.  I bought a couple of books about learning crochet and knitting as well as some knitting needles, crochet hooks and some yarn.

I learned how to knit but I never really liked and I learned how to crochet and found it was a lot faster to make something and I could read the directions easily and so I got hooked (pun intended) on crocheting.

Over the next 20 years years I had made many pillows, blankets, lots of coaster, a sweater during the rodney king riots and even a bed for my kitty.  But last year I had to stop because my hands would get numb after only a few minutes of crocheting.  I involuntarily gave it up.

Chips and his moms friend Julia had passed away after Halloween in 2007 and her neice was going through her house and found tons of yarn and gave the majority of it to me knowing that I crochet.  Well, I was very happy to get it all but I knew that I wouldn't have much use for it anymore due to my numbness.  I wasn't exactly sure otherwise I would've rejected it which would have meant it would all go to the trash which would've been a total waste of good yarn so I accepted it.  At Christmas 2007 I brought a lot of the yarn that I didn't care about with me and gave it all to Chips neice and another family member as well as all these knitting needles and crochet hooks.

Well, even though I had a good 20 years of crocheting I'm not ready to give it up because I've been dying to crochet hehe.  Even though I know I shouldn't do it because I don't want to flare up the carpel tunnel syndrome, I'm doing it little bits at a time.  It's not going to hurt if I do little bits at a time.

I just think it's a total waste of a great skill because not a lot of men can or want to crochet.  Some men think that if they crochet they aren't men but lots of men crochet like Rosie Grier the football player, my Uncle Ron who is probably the most masculine man I've ever met crocheted in his earlier years, the private detective on the tv show Pushing Daisies knits and crochets and they are always showing yarn on his desk in his office.  So it's not a skill that is female specific.  But it is a waste of a skill if you can't do it anymore.  I would've liked to be able to do it all year because that is usually the source of christmas presents from me.

Atomic Alarm Clock

A few months ago I sent in a publisher's clearing house thing with a stamp for an atomic alarm clock.  I'm kinda sick of having to set my TV to wake me up in the morning and I wanted something that was atomic because it sets itself via sattellite.  It's not a radio alarm clock and it takes batteries, not plugged in which makes it even easier if we lose power.

As soon as I get it I put some batteries in and it says that it's 12:00 and it doesn't update right away like you see on the commercials.  In fact it is still not set right, it says 5:08pm when it's really 2:06pm.  I read in the manual about how it works and it says that it doesn't talk to the sattellite until night time so I pretty much have to wait until tonight for it to update.  It also thinks that today is January 31st lol.  Frankly I don't know how to set it yet so I am just waiting for it to set itself and hope that it sets the date too.

Christmas is almost here

Well I decided to get out the Christmas tree from the shed and set it up.  I'm so excited that I can finally set it up.  The Christmas spirit has taken over my body hehe.  Here is a picture of our Christmas Tree from last year.  It's the same tree, a pre-lit tree.  I took a picture of our cat with her Santa hat on and made it into wallpaper for my laptop and my desktop.  Since my laptop is 1024x768 and my desktop is 1280x768 I have 2 versions of it.  So if you want to download it just click the little version below then it goes full screen, just right click it and save it to your computer.  The widescreen version isn't actually 1280x768, it's smaller but I have it stretched on my screen.

Toy Store Shooting

Yesterday I reported that there was a gang shooting in a Toys R Us in Palm Desert, CA where 2 people were shot.  Well the news just updated letting us know that 2 men who were shopping at the toy store pulled out their guns and shot and killed each other but they aren't sure if it is indeed gang related.

In other news, the amount of people who died in India yesterday have gone up.

Black Friday - 4 dead

Wow, what people will do for a deal.  2 people were trampled in a Walmart, security guard died.  As he was trying to breathe air he was killed by people trampling him.  A pregnant woman was injured and miscarried.  That's 2 dead in a Walmart.

2 people were shot and killed in a Toys R Us in Palm Desert, CA but it wasn't due to the black friday deals, it was gang related.

What is this world coming to?

Happy Thanksgiving

We just came home from Hometown Buffet.  The best place for 2 people to eat on Thanksgiving when not with family, in my opinion.  They have everything you could want for Thanksgiving and then some.

Old Glasses

The right arm on my current glasses broke and so I've been going without them because they have a prism in both lenses so if I try to wear them with 1 arm like Chip does then it really hurts my eyes so I've just chosen not to wear them at all.  I'm waiting until my check comes so I can buy my new frame for $35 so in the meantime I have to squint a lot to read, or close 1 eye.

I knew there was a good reason why I kept all my old glasses.  The black frames that I got in 2002 (I think) are a little scratched up but they are still in good condition.  I used a scratch remover to clean the scratches up a bit so I can wear them while I wait for my new frames.  I was actually sorta shocked that the prescription in these old ones weren't very different from what I have now.  My eyes change so often that every 2 years I have to get a new eye exam when I get my new glasses and so I thought that this prescription wouldn't be any good anymore but it works.

The previous pair that I had after these black frames but before my currect pair were too scratched up that I can't wear them at all.  But that's ok with me.  The arms on the black frames I'm wearing right now are a bit stretched though so I'm not going to just revert back to these glasses.  They are a bit worn out and so they are just temporary.  I'm starting to wish that I had gotten plastic frames again instead of the metal frames that I got last year because the plastic ones have lasted a lot longer than the metal ones so my next frame will be plastic again.

Steam Cleaner

Today I was trying to clean the carpet in my room and the hallway because of the dog peeing all over the house and it just wouldn't work.  The hand held thingy with the hose worked, I mean releasing the water and soap but just using it as an upright it wasn't releasing any water.  I finally ended up just using the hand held thing to put the soapy water on the ground then used the upright part to scrub the carpet fibers and suck up the water.

The last time I used it I cleaned it and it was fine sitting in the coat closet near the front door.  It worked the last time I used it, I don't know why this time it didn't work.  I did everything the book said to do in the troubleshooting section.  I didn't do the living room yet because I have to pick up in there and that will take a bit more time, there is more furniture in there.  But when I do go to use it I hope it works for me.

True Blood Season 1 Finale

Season 1 finale... not season 2 finale.

Tonight was the season finale of True Blood on HBO.  I was glad they finally found the murderer and Jason got out of jail.  Poor Layfayette didn't have a good ending though.  They ended it with Andy finding a dead body in the back of his car (poor layfayette).  He was such a good character.  Maybe he will come back next year as a vampire though.  The person who was the actual murderer of all the women including the grandmother was the last person I thought would be the bad guy and he deserved what he got.

At the end of the episode they said that they are currently in production for another season which will aire in the summer of 2009 so I'm glad this didn't get canceled.
Edit: Boy was I wrong, I thought for sure it was Layfayette in the back of Andy's car but thank goodness it wasn't.

Food Maxx

We've only been to Food Maxx a couple of times years ago and I never really looked at their prices before because they were low but not that much lower than Albertson's.  We went there yesterday and wow was I impressed by the low prices.  I think that we should start going there more often for groceries because like the Yoplait yogurt was .55 regularly when it's over $1 at Albertsons.

I've been buying it from Holy Cow only because it's cheaper from him than at Albertson's.  I'm still going to get it from Holy Cow to give him the business but I do want to go to Food Maxx for other stuff.  Chip goes through Yoplait like it's pudding, eating 4 servings a day.  I like to eat 1 serving a day, this way I get one for every day of the week.  When he runs out he eats mine and I only buy 14 a week, 7 for him, 7 for me.

Google 411

I just got an email about this.  It's new Google 411.  Wow, is google going to start making cell phones next?  Oh wait, they do!  What about microwaves or television sets or dishwashers?

Well, this new thing is actually a very good thing.  Before I had blogged about 411 calls now costing $1 per call and that you can call 1-800-free-411 but you have to endure listening to a 15-30 second advertisement.  But, this is even better because there are NO advert's and they automatically collect you to who you want to call.  I've added 1-800-goog-411 to all our handsets in the house and to my cell phone and you should too.

If you have a cell phone with internet or with maps or whatever they will send you a map for your GPS so you can get there and/or they will text message you the information you asked for but you have to tell them that.  Oh it's also a recording so you won't talk to a person but their voice recognition software is pretty good so you probably won't have to.  Hey, don't bitch about it, it's free.

Call 1-800-goog-411 or visit their website at www.google.com/goog411

10 Speed

I decided last night that instead of getting my bike fixed right away or when I get money I want to go to the thrift store where we saw that 10 speed road bike for $20 and see if they still have it.  I've wanted to have 2 bikes at the house so if Chip ever decides he wants to go bike riding for weight loss then we can go together.

I also wanted a 10 speed road bike because that's what the majority of the people are riding on the bike trail.  I think that a 10 speed is a lot faster because it's lighter and it will give me less pain in my legs, I think.

I still want to fix the handlebars on my mountain bike but just when I get the money that's all.  I don't want to fix it myself because I really don't know what I'm doing.  You gotta take the rubber grips off of the handlebars first and I just don't want to do that because they have the roadmaster logo on them.  I also would like to just bring it in to the bike store so they can look at it to make sure everything is in good condition.

My mountain bike can keep the lock on it and the lights with the generator because I might want to ride that to the store (when it's fixed) at night and I'll need the lights and the lock.  But I will transfer the computer over to the 10 speed and the frame bag.  The frame bag really doesn't work in the mountain bike because the frame is too small for a frame bag.  I was barely able to keep my water bottle on it because with the bag there the water bottle was sticking out and I've been terrified that it would eventually pop out into traffic.

I'm actually looking forward to getting a 10 speed road bike because I think it would be easier to ride and I think I would go a lot faster which would mean that I would burn much more calories.  If I went faster I could probably ride the 18 miles in a lot shorter period of time and burn a ton of calories in the process.  And rest less.  Yes, I'm very excited about this.

All things falling apart

Well, it wasn't bad enough that yesterday I had an accident and broke my handlebar stem and stem bolt but when we were at the pharmacy today I noticed the arm on my glasses were loose.  I thought I just needed to tighten the screw.  When we got home I screwed it but it was still loose.  It's the type of arm that has a spring so you can push them outward and they go back to normal.  I guess it broke inside the arm.

I called the optomitrist I got them from and they had to order a new pair and it's gonna cost me $35.

Then I went out to my bike to see if I can bend that piece of the stem that was bent but it is way too bent for me to fix, the metal is too hard for me to bend it with a pair of plyers.  I went to pick up a screwdriver and my old .99¢ light fell off the chair and broke lol.

I went to go online and I had no internet connection lol.  Anything else?  Sheesh!

Spoke Magnet

When I came home from the E.R. today I noticed that the magnet on my front wheel spoke was gone (magnet for the cyclo-computer) and so I went to eBay to see if they had any and they had 1 for $2 plus $1.51 shipping.  Even though my bank account is running low, I have about $30 left, I took the liberty of making a $5 bid.  If I can avoid having to buy a whole new computer just for a magnet then I will.

There were other magnets on ebay for $7 - $9 but with shipping costs that would make them come out to be about $12 or $13.  The computer itself at Target is only $15.  I'm not paying close to the same price for a new computer just for a magnet.

If I lose the bid on this then I'm just gonna keep checking ebay to see if someone else has it cheap.  If not then when I go to target for the gloves I might as well just buy a new computer.

Biking Accident

I had a little accident on my bike today.  I was riding up a bridge standing up and all of a sudden the bike shifted gears and my leg slipped off the peddle and I fell on my left side which broke the handlebar bolt.  I had to call home to come pick me up then went to the E.R. and was told that I tore a muscle and I can't ride my bike for at least 4 weeks.

I'm not giving up on it though.  I'm sure it won't take a month because it's feeling good right now but maybe a week or 2 I can take it easy.  But I'm changing my bike route so I don't have to deal with any of the bridges at all to get to the bike path and back home.

It's frustrating that this happened because I've gotten myself into a routine and now that routine has been broken but I'm confident that when I can ride my bike again that routine will come back to me.

Too cold

I was going to ride my bike this morning at 9am and I got out there and OMG it was too freakin cold.  No way am I riding in this bitter cold.

A Bicycle Built for Two

I suggested to Chip today that maybe we should get a bicycle built for two.  He didn't go for that one lol.  I think it would be cool.  We could have matching performance wear, helmets and we can have headsets for chatting.  And we can also use a Y adapter for my Dell DJ so we can both hear the same music while we ride.  I think that would be awesome.  This is what we would look like...

Bad week for riding

Well today I didn't get to ride at all because of the delivery mix up.  Since they finally showed up at 1:45pm I thought it would be ok to go out but I really prefer to go in the morning after breakfast.  I'd prefer to get it out of the way and not have to worry about getting too hot.  What am I going to do in the summer time?  Sheesh I'm gonna have to get up at 4am in the summer time.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with the neurologist for my carpel tunnel syndrome and that appointment is at 11:30am which means I'm going to have to get up really early to leave.  I'm usually gone for an hour and half, I could leave at 9am and be back at 10:30 so I have an hour to get ready.  I think I'm gonna do that.

But then on Friday I have a doctors appointment with our regular doctor for a regular visit at 10am.  There is no way I'm getting up at 7am to ride my bike lol.  I normally don't get up until 9:30am so I'm just going to go after my appointment, that is if I get home by noon lol.  We're usually gone for 2 hours even when we have an appointment.  What's up with doctors?  You come early and you end up waiting in the waiting room for 45 minutes AFTER your appointment time even if you were there half an hour early.

I know one thing is that I'm going to ride this Saturday and Sunday no matter what.  I know that I'm keeping my weight down (even though I'm eating a PB&J right now) but in order for me to really keep my weight down I gotta exercise as much as possible.  I'm talking about maintaining my weight loss as well as losing weight.  That's been my problem, I can lose about 10-20lbs but then I start to just maintain it.  Even if I am able to maintain my weight I need to keep going.

Delivery

I was supposed to get a package this morning and the driver rang the doorbell but the batteries in our doorbell are dead or dying so we didn't hear it.  They left a note saying they showed up but there was no answer and so I got a call from my pharmacy who delivered the package saying that they will call the delivery company about a 2nd attempt.  They called me back saying that I'd have to wait until 5pm.  I told them that the delivery company will have to bang on the metal door and I can't count on Chip being awake to get it for me so I gotta stay home until they show up.

I just hope they come before too long because I can't ride my bike if the sun starts to go down because I don't like riding it at night.  First of all the generator on the bike gives me more resistance, which isn't bad if I wasn't so heavy I guess because then it would give me a better workout but I would rather get that better workout when I'm thinner heh.

If I have to just end up staying home today and not getting any exercise that's fine I guess.  I know it's going to take at least a year to get this weight off so what's one more day eh?  This just means that I won't take Sunday off.  Normally I like to ride 5 days a week and take 2 days off but I don't mind riding 6 days.  I actually don't even mind riding 7 days but I do like to give my legs a break every so often to help recharge them.

I was just hoping that this Friday when I weigh in I will actually show that I've lost some weight.  I don't see any weight loss so far from last week.  I could weigh in every 2 weeks, it doesn't have to be every week.  I mean, actually I could weigh in once a month.  It doesn't matter when I weigh in, as long as I weigh in.  I would prefer not having to weigh in on a weekly basis because it makes me feel bad when I constantly weigh myself because I feel discouraged when I do weigh myself.

Edit: The package finally came at 1:45pm and I had plenty of time to go on my bike ride but just decided not to.  I like going at 10am when it's still early.

Reorganizing Music Again

It wasn't that long ago, like a week or 2 ago, that I had to download all the cd's from my Dell DJ mp3 player to my computer then fix all the tags then put them back on my DJ but when I did that I didn't count on the fact that their file names had something to do with anything.  For example.  If a song says 01 Politik instead of Coldplay - A Rush of Blood To The Head - 01 - Politik then when I go to make a playlist I'm not going to know who the artist is or even which CD that song is from.

Yes, I am really anal about things like that lol.  I don't know why, I just am.  But it's not for no reason.  When I ride my bike sometimes there are songs that are way too loud or they don't have any sound at all then I have to pull over in the dirt on the bike trail, pull the remote control out of the bike frame bag and push the next button.  I don't want to have to do that because it slows me down and brings my average speed time down too.  It's also annoying to be riding happily then all of a sudden a song blares into your ears and then they start to bleed lol.  Or you don't hear anything for a minute before realizing you aren't going to but the song is playing.  I don't really understand how that song got put in there.  Also there is 1 song that is in there twice from Uncle Kracker.  I don't know how that happened.

So, I'm downloading the music to my computer and I will reorganize the names and write down what is going into the playlist and look at each song with a microscope to make sure my ride is full of good music and not annoying music.

Actually, I'd also like to just add the popular songs from certain CD's, the ones that made it to the radio, this way I can cut down on the amount of songs in my playlist which is typically between 550 and 600.  It's not going to be easy to weed through them all though, it will take hours, possibly days.  Well, at least I have something to do lol.

Day off

I wanted to ride my bike today but Chip reminded me that I said that I was going to take the day off so I did.  Even though I really wanted to ride lol.  Oh well.  I probably should take the day off anyway because if I do this too much I might get too tired of it and stop.  I do like the routine of doing it everyday though.

When I was going to the gym 6 days a week in 2005 I had a routine for about 5 months and I wasn't seeing any results and I started eating junk food even though I was trying so hard to lose weight.  I pushed myself so hard at the gym then turned around and ate twinkies and cupcakes.  I don't want to make that mistake again.  That's the reason I quit going to the gym.  That and it took 2 1/2 hours just to get there on the bus then 2 1/2 hours to get back home on the bus.  I would've been better off riding my bike there, that way I'd get exercise on my way to getting exercise lol.

R&R

Today I decided not to go bike riding because I wanted to give my legs a chance to rest since I've been going such a long distance.  Tomorrow I will be going out again.  I'm just not sure if it's worth riding 17 miles a day while I'm still in this stage of still getting used to riding a bike at all.  I mean it's only been a month and even though I've seen 8lbs of weight loss so far I'm not seeing very much weight loss even with 17 and 18 mile days.  It's nice to go a long distance to really step it up and everything but I just don't see the results.

Now I realize that by me saying that I'm saying that I'm giving up on going such a long distance and I don't want to say that but at the same time I think I can just do the 11 miles and get away with it for now.  I want to burn calories but not at the expense of causing myself pain and possible injury to my muscles.  I'm probably going to notice no weight loss at all this week and that's possibly because I'm building too much muscle in my legs causing me to gain muscle weight so I don't see the fat weight disappearing.

The first month was only 8lbs and normally I would be upset by that because 7lbs isn't a lot to lose in a month, that's 2lbs a week but at this point I'm just happy to not be in the 240's anymore.  Being in the mid 230's makes me feel that if I can get there then I can get to 220's and so on but it takes time, a lot of time.  I need to stop worrying about the scale and stop thinking about it too much.

Tonight I decided that since I was weighing myself as 238 which is more than last weeks weigh in by 1 calorie that I would start eating salads for dinner, just to give me smaller calories for that meal of the day.  Breakfast I've been eating toast and a yoplait, lunch a peanut butter and jam sandwich or a ham sandwich.  Actually I've been eating 2 sandwiches but I'm going to limit myself to just 1 from now on and as soon as I get more yoplait's on friday I'm going to limit my breakfast to just a yoplait.  I love coffee but I'm going to try to limit that too.  Chip bought me this whole big thing of creamer so it's going to be difficult to not be able to enjoy it.  I'm thinking for now coffee every other day.  I have been drinking a lot of water though so that helps big time.  Not the sparkling bottled water with flavor that Chip has been buying from Albertson's but just plain filtered water.

Well, I'm blogging this just before bed, I've taken my ambien already so I'm gonna go do the litter box then get in the shower and go to bed.

17 miles

Today I did the same route but only did 17 miles.  The reason why is because yesterday before I went on my bike ride I rode the bike to the post office then back.  It's just 3 blocks from my house and I wanted to count that time that I rode because I'm greedy lol.  Anyway, here are my stats for today.

Distance 17.527, max speed 27.3, average speed 11.1, time 1:34:32, calories 813.7, fat calories 85.2.

Since this is going to be my route from now on this is going to be the last time I put my stats.  That is unless I decided to go further.  I'd like to just keep this as my current route just so I can lose enough weight so I'm lighter on the bike and I will go faster.  Once I'm faster then I can go further.

18 miles

Today I have broken my record of 11 miles by going 18 miles.  Here are the numbers from the computer:

18.290 miles, max speed 26.8, average speed 10.7, time 1:42:33, calories 835.7, fat calories 81.2.

My max speed could go up but as I've said before, the weight is what is slowing me down.  I'm 236lbs and that's a lot for the bike to carry.  As it is even with 20.7 pressure in my tires which is what it's supposed to have, they look like they are going flat when I am sitting on the bike.  That's definately heavy lol.  And I feel that that weight is what is holding me back from going faster.  But as the weight goes down my speed will go up.  I have faith that it will.  When the speed goes up then I will be able to go longer distance.  For now the 18 miles that I rode today will be my bike route.  I won't go further than that.

By the way, if you look at the map you can see the trail that I rode.  First off I rode from my house to Beach Park but that isn't on the map.  That's only a few miles.  But look at Beach Park on the map then find China Grade Loop.  That is where I went today.

More Rain

It rained this morning and I was going to go riding when Chip left for church but it was still raining so I just decided to stay home until the rain stopped instead.  He just came home so we'll eat then I'll wait 20 min before going out.

BAH it's still raining.  I'm gonna just have to wait for the rain to stop.

Bike Maintenance

Yesterday when I came home from riding my bike I tightened the gears on the handlebars and fixed that but decided today was the day I was going to do maintenance on my bike.  I wanted to get some degreaser and cleaner for the gears on the back wheel and the chain and scrub it all to clean it then put some new grease on it but I need Chip to take me to the bike store.  I don't want to ride it there because it's kinda far and I don't want to have to have bottles of cleaner and grease in bags hanging on my handlebars.  Yeah I know I could use a backpack but that's ok.  I'd rather be driven there.  I'd also like to walk through the store looking around and not worry that my bike is getting stolen.

What I did do today was I took the back wheel off because it has been wobbling and I know it's not supposed to do that.  Before I figured out how to fix it I noticed that the ball bearings were getting close to falling out.  That's not good.  I knew that I am lucky that I finally got around to fixing it because if it got any looser that I'd be in trouble.  I got it tightened but too tight so I had to loosen it hehe.

All fixed but not lubed up so hopefully soon I can get the cleaner and grease and get that done.

No Sweat

You know the old saying "No Sweat" which typically means no problem.  Well, in my case it is a literal translation.  When I'm riding the bike there is literally no sweat coming from my body.  The only thing that is wet on me is my collar and my hair as well as the helmet straps.  When I get home from my long bike ride I take off the helmet and let my hair dry and that's the extent of the problem.  I don't have to change my shirt or quickly take a shower because my body is drenched because it just isn't.  My body is as dry as a bone all except for my cranium.

I mean, I'm very grateful that I am not sweating and ruining shirts with the sweat stains or having to buy so much Degree for men that it will last me until eternity.

Maybe the weather is the problem.  Maybe since it's in the 70's outside when I go riding.  It's too cold for me to sweat.  In fact if I didn't wear a helmet made out of Styrofoam I probably would be completely dry.

So, I absolutly will not need bike shirts until Spring of 2009 when the whether is going to start getting too hot again,  I have faith that when it is so hot outside like 100 degree weather, I will be drenched just from typing this blog out.  Hmmm maybe I should wear bike shirts and shorts everyday in the summer lol.

O.J. back in court

O.J. Simpson and C.J. Stewart were back in court today in front of the same judge who sentenced them both to life in prison for attempted robbery.  They were both asking for a new trial because the foreman juror has been fired from multiple jobs for racial slurs.  So basically they are saying that they didn't get a fair trial because of race.  They are always bringing the race card in.

The judge denied their motion for a new trial and said see you in December for sentencing.

The judge denied a few motions today actually.  The lawyers for O.J. brought him a suit to wear and the judge said no he can't wear it, he has to wear what he came in which is his blue prison suit.  Then they asked if it was ok that he not be there because they didn't want him to be on tv without a suit and she denied that.  This of course was at the very beginning.  After O.J.'s attorneys asked about the suit issue, C.J.'s attorneys asked about the suit for him and she denied that as well.

11 Miles

Wow I thought 9 miles yesterday was awesome but today I surpassed that by going 11 miles.  I was riding for 62 minutes total.  That's awesome.

My legs aren't getting as tired as fast as they usually are.  I mean there were some points where I had to stop because I was going slower and so I knew if I stopped, got off the bike and drank some water and gave my legs a rest for a minute or 2 that I would recharge and it worked.  I'd get back on the bike and go 12-14 mph again.

I don't know where I was this time.  I will have to look it up on google map.  I saw a bunch of mobile homes.  There was a stop light ahead.  I just looked at the google map website and it was Manor st. where I stopped and started going back.

Anyway, here are the stats from the computer.  11.231 miles, 29.7 max speed, 10.9 average speed, time 1:01:54, 536.2 calories and 53.5 fat calories.

Tomorrow is my official weigh in day and I will update the image on the Spark page but I weighed myself and I was 236lbs.  I was 244lbs.  But it isn't official until I weigh in tomorrow after my bike ride.

Frustrated

I'm probably checking my weight too often but it just doesn't seem like I'm losing any weight.  This has been my problem though, I check my weight and I don't lose then I get frustrated and then stop exercising/dieting and go back to my old eating habits and idle behavior.

I do realize that since I'm building muscle with riding the bike that I probably am losing fat but just building muscle.  And since muscle weighs more than fat then that is probably why I haven't lost any weight.  I just have to stick it out for a bit longer and just not think about my weight.

Bakersfield's Bike Trail

9 Miles

These are what the cyclo-computer says.  9.014 miles, maximum speed reached (mxs) 27.0, average speed (avs) 10.7, time 50:35, calories 436.6, fat calories 43.5.

Boy are my legs swollen lol.  9 miles is the longest I've gone so far and I plan on breaking that record too.  What I did was I rode to Beach Park which took about 16 or 17 minutes (not including the times I stopped at the lights and had to stop to drink water) then once I was there I sat on a picnic table and rested my legs for about 10 minutes.  Then I got up and went on the bike trail and rode for about 9 minutes.  I was going to do 10 minutes but my legs were just killing me.  So what I did was I stopped and stood there for a few minutes and watched the 2 people on the 2 horses and waved then watched them pass me.  Then I got back on it and went back to Beach park where I sat on the bench at the trail entrance before going back home.

I just can't believe that I finally started riding my bike again.  I think this is so cool.  When I was a kid all I had was the bike, I didn't have the helmet or water cage with bottle or the frame bag with the tools or the computer.  It was just me on the bike.  Not even any protective gear.  And I also didn't have the extra baggage that I do now with all this weight.  That's one reason why I don't recall having any pain and swelling in my thighs.

Well, I just have to wait until I can do this all over again tomorrow and just hope that I go further.

It's too cold

I'm waiting for the heat to kick in lol.  I just went to my bike to the cyclo-computer to find out the temp outside and it says 49.5 degrees.  Hell to the no.  No freakin way am I going out bike riding when it's this cold.  But I'm dying to get it over with lol.

Why is it either too hot or it's too cold?  It's never in between!  The only time of the year that it's in between is 1 month before the summer heat which usually starts in May and 2 weeks after the heat is over in the end of September to the beginning of October.

Now, keep in mind that I love the cold.  I can't wait for the cold every year but when it gets this cold and I have a purpose for being outside then I'm not so sure about it anymore lol.  I do know one thing is for sure, I'm gonna need some bike gloves.  I didn't get them because they were a little much and I have bills to pay but now I think they are really important for my ride.  Especially when it becomes really cold and it hurts to hold the rubber grips on the handlebars.

Normally when I go bike riding I wear a regular t-shirt and a pair of shorts.  I don't wear pants or a jacket because it gets too hot for that.  Even when it's cold outside I still sweat in them.  And the ride is so long that my head is usually soaking wet.  Which is also not good when it's this cold outside because it could cause me to catch a very bad cold.  I'm going to have to wait until it's at least in the 60's outside.  That's what the temp usually has been the last few weeks that I've been riding and thats ok.  And perhaps if I have to wait until noon for the temp to be up that high then so be it.  I just don't want to miss out on riding because it's too cold.

Presidential Election

I was not going to post anything that has to do with the president at all because people get so uptight when it comes to discussing who our president is.  The Democrats always fight with the Republicans and vice versa and there is never a common ground.  They just get so mad and so this post is not going to spark up a debate.  At least here it's not because comments are disabled.

The point of this post is to show you how as of this very minute the votes were calculated from the whole USA and of course my county of Kern.  Ok so all you have to do is click the little image and it will open up to full size.

Prop 8 Undecided

I'm still waiting to find out about prop 8.  I heard that it's 55% for yes and 45% for no which is not good news but they said that it would probably end up in court again.  This issue is never going to die.  The christians are going to constantly be against us and it just shows gay people that we are still very much hated and we have so many more years before we will ever be accepted.  It just makes me so sick to my stomach that the people that I thought liked me ended up voting yes on this issue.  It let's me know who really like me and who doesn't and I will never look at them the same again.  I will also never step foot in a church again as long as I live knowing every single one of them voted yes on this.  A yes vote on prop 8 is a vote against gay people in general.  You can argue with me all you want but you know it's true.

New Yahoo Avatar

Todays Ride

I decided that since I got a new cyclo-computer that I would go out today even though I went out yesterday.  I like to give my legs a days rest normally but I was too excited not to go out.  I wanted to see the exact amount of time I would ride along with the exact miles per hour and the exact amount of miles that I rode.  Before I would have to go to google to map out my ride so I can get an exact number of miles that it takes to go from the house to there and then back but this tells me all that information.  Also google maps doesn't let me map out the ride on the bike trail so when I start riding on the bike trail I won't know how many miles I went.

Well, today when I got to Beach Park the ride was only 16 minutes.  Normally with my other stop watch the ride is like 22 minutes but that's because whenever I pull over to get a drink of water or to rest my legs for a minute I don't stop the timer.  This new computer turns the timer off when you stop riding so I'm getting an exact reading of how long it takes me to get there.

I've been putting in the SparkPeople website that I've been doing 14-15mph and I was riding 12-15 mph today but it showed my average speed at 10mph so where it shows my calories that is reflective of me going 10mph.  So, when I added todays bike ride to SparkPeople I had to tell them I went 10mph.  I want to be as accurate as possible.

Instead of riding every other day I'm going to try everyday.  I figured maybe I could do 2 days on, 1 day off but I think that my legs are getting used to it enough that I can start going everyday.  This is my 4th week of riding the bike.  My first week I only rode to California ave and back which was 4 days in that week.  My 2nd week I only rode to Oak and Truxton and back and that was 3 days.  My 3rd week I made it to Beach Park and rested then came back and that was only 2 days.  Now my 4th week I'm getting to Beach Park and without resting going straight onto the bike trail but I only went a little distance before deciding to go back to the park and resting for 10 min before going home.

Now that I'm getting better I would like to spend 20 or more minutes on the bike trail (maybe 10 min out then 10 min back) then resting before heading home.  I'm actually really excited that my legs are getting better and getting more used to riding because as I've said before, I'd eventually love to ride for 2 hours a day.  The weight will definitely melt off when I'm riding for 2 hours a day.  Also I'd like to get to the point where that is 2 hours straight.

I'm actually excited about losing weight for the first time in a long time because I know that if I ride the bike on a daily basis I will definitely lose the weight a lot faster.  Now I just need to start eating better to make this weight loss go faster.  I'm trying my best.

Edit: Yes, I realize I was rambling lol.  I edited out some of the redundance lol.

Rawhide Sticks

When we went to Target today I bought some Rawhide sticks for Flower because she has been chewing everything in sight.  She has chewed so many holes in my comforter and pulling the stuffing out so I wake up most mornings with all this stuffing all over the bed.

Chip was afraid of giving her rawhide because she is such a small dog and he was afraid that the rawhide would splinter and she would get it stuck in her throat.  Which is a valid concern but this stuff when chewed becomes soft and it doesn't splinter.  He just hasn't had any experience with giving rawhide to dogs and so I can understand why he was worried.

But since I gave her one when we came home she's been chewing it and he holds it for her hehe.  It's so cute to watch him holding it for her.  She just loves it too.  So now I know what she will get for Christmas.  Now hopefully she will stop chewing everything including my shoes.

Cyclo-computer

Well I bought a Cyclo-computer today at Target with 20 functions.  Some of the fuctions are Odometer, speedometer, how many calories I'm burning, how much fat I'm burning, timer and many more.  The way it works is I put a magnet on one of the spokes on the front wheel and I attach a sensor to the fork then the wire goes up to the computer.  The computer is also removable so nobody will steal it when I go to the store.

I also bought a new lock while we were there.  It's a much better lock and it came with a bracket that attaches to the frame.  This new lock has a key so I don't have to worry about a combination and the spare key is in a drawer just in case I lose my first key.  If I lose both keys then I will probably lose my bike forever because this is the type of lock that you cannot open easily.

Raining

Well I was so looking forward to riding my bike today but it's pouring rain outside and I can't afford to get sick.  I'd rather be safe and dry and not get sick and be able to ride tomorrow as opposed to going out, getting sick then incapacitated for a few days or longer.

I remember as a teenager riding my bike home from school and the cars passing me would just drench me.  No thank you.

Ghost Whisperer

Since I missed Ghost Whisperer tonight because I was watching Ghost Hunters (gotta watch something with ghosts hehe) I have to watch Ghost Whisperer on the internet.  But just in case I forget where I found it I'm going to embed it here.

Ghost Hunters Halloween Live

This is the 3rd annual live episode of Ghost Hunters.  It's a 7 hour investigation beginning at 7pm and ending at 2am.  The following wednesday night episode will be a follow up to show the results of all the EVP and videos from the cameras and the flir.

Tonight the team revisits Fort Delaware in Delaware City to probe the former Civil War post. Guests Amanda Tapping and Mike "The Miz" Mizanin join the hunt. Hosts: Josh Gates and Steve Valentine.

So far after the first 6 minutes they already starting having issues with production.  All of a sudden the screen went snowy bringing back old memories of before cable was invented and you had to fiddle with the "rabbit ears".  Also when Josh Gates was talking to Amanda Tapping and The Miz you couldn't hear them talking.  You could hear Josh but not the other 2.  You could hear a lot of Josh's voice echoing though and hearing Amanda talking sounded like an EVP, you could barely understand what she was saying.  The only people who were able to get what she said were lip readers.

It took about 45 minutes before they actually started doing their investigation which is fine because they showed the tour of the property and they showed how they got there which looks like it must've cost a lot of money, like you could probably buy a decent house in a rich neighborhood for the amount of money that they spent.

Once they went in the camera started messing up and they had just started.  It kept freezing up.  They could've switched over to Steve just until they got it all squared away but they kept going hoping it would clear up which eventually it did.

I also noticed on the Flir that they are 13 minutes ahead of us which means someone set the clocks ahead.  Of course I'm on the west coast so they are 3 hours ahead so it isn't live for me but still, they were 13 min ahead for the east coasters too.

The cameras are messing up again.  It just happens to Jay and Grant but I think it's because of the walls of where they are walking through.  They are after all in the dungeons.  You can't expect good quality video down there.

Edit:  Sci-Fi channel keeps popping up these ads at the bottom of the screen.  Now I realize they won't be showing a lot of commercials like they normally would, 15 - 17 min of commercials per hour, but the pop up's are starting to get annoying.  I mean, they could make them smaller.  They take up 1/4 of the screen at the bottom every few minutes.  It reminds me of pop up ads on the internet except I can't click them off.

I've stayed up for the entire 7 hour investigation despite the fact that I woke up at 4am and couldn't go back to sleep.  I am sooooo tired lol.  I made a pot of coffee about 2 hours ago and of course I ran out of equal and sugar so this is my last cup.  There is only 20 more minutes left of the show so I'm going to tape my eyelids open, I got the tooth picks on hold just in case lol.

So far all that has happened is a strong authoritative male voice telling Jay and Grant "You aren't supposed to be here".  That's all that I've noticed so far.  Josh said there were some other sounds like footsteps and knocking but I didn't hear it.  I can't wait to see the episode on Wednesday that will reveal all the evidence they found.

Ghost Hunters Marathon

Wow there have been a couple of episodes that I have never seen today on Sci-Fi.  I've been watching the marathon since 8am and it's almost 6pm, the last 2 episodes I haven't seen before.  I was very impressed in some EVP's from a hotel in Washington (episode called "Ghostly Conversation").

There was a room that a princess always stayed in when she visited the hotel, she even brought her own bed with her everytime she came and she died there so the bed stayed there too.  Jay and Grant were in the room asking questions and the Princess was responding right away.  Of course you can only hear her respond on the EVP, you couldn't hear her in real time.  That's the bad thing about doing this is you can only hear them on digital tape and not for real.  It's still really cool though.

Facebook

I've been able to add my RSS2 to Facebook so now friends on Facebook can see my recent blogs when they visit my Facebook page.  YAY!

I voted!

Well I finally finished filling out my ballot today.  We are cutting it very close because we are a mail only district and in order for our ballots to count we have to send them in early enough but all those props were so confusing that I just couldn't understand them.  Some of them I could understand like 1a, 2, 3 and 8.  All of those I was able to understand.  Also there were some offices that I had no clue who the people were because I haven't seen any commercials for them.  They can't expect me to vote for them if they don't give me an idea who they are.  Actually, I have seen some commercials but they didn't put a huge impact on me.  I don't watch the local debates.

Anyway, finally finished it and it's going in the mail today, hopefully they will get it tomorrow then it will be counted by Monday so that on Tuesday my vote will count.

Huge anticipation

My body must've been very excited about Halloween today because I woke up at 1am but luckily was able to go back to sleep.  Then I woke up again at 4am but was not able to go back to sleep.  Around 5am I went to the ATM machine to get a $20 to give to the milk man.  I was lucky that Chip insisted on going with me because when I went to the ATM a thug looking guy was walking towards me but when he saw Chip he went in another direction.

At 6:20am I left to go to the grocery store to buy some coffee and some candy bars for the neighbors kids, they are 5 for $2.00 right now so that was a good deal.  I didn't want to buy a big bag because I'm not going to pass out candy to the kids who don't wear costumes and the kids who don't even live in our neighborhood.  So I just bought 5 candy bars for our neighbors kids Devan, Dougie, Beth and Gracie and the 5th one will go to Karens nephew if he is with them, he's been spending a lot of time there so maybe he will be trick or treating with them.

After I left Albertson's I went over to McDonald's and bought us some breakfast.  Sorry Sue, they didn't have any Monopoly tickets lol.

8am came and Ghost Hunters finally came on and I'm going to watch that the entire day WOOHOO!

Halloween is almost here

Halloween is almost here and since I will be watching TV all day I thought I'd blog today.  HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Biking

Riding the bike is getting a lot easier.  I rode the bike from my house to Oak and Palm before realizing I didn't stop for water once so naturally I stopped for some water.  I got all the way to the park in 19 1/2 minutes this time which is I think 3 minutes faster.  Probably because I didn't stop to take a water break so many times.

I also didn't sit on the picnic table for that long either, on Monday I think I sat there for 20 minutes before heading back home and this time I think it was like 10 or 15 minutes.

When coming home I didn't turn right on H st. going on 21st st.  Instead I went further down to Chester Ave. because H st. has no bike lane in downtown Bakersfield but Chester Ave. does.  I think it's easier to ride in a bike lane than cause an accident, don't you?

So, I went a further distance and it was only 40 minutes this time.  The last time it was 45 minutes and this time I went a further distance which tells me that 1 I'm going faster and 2 my legs are getting more used to riding that I don't have to stop to take a break for them.

I can remember not too long ago that I could only ride up to California Ave. and back and that was like 12 minutes and when I came home I could barely walk because of the stiffness in my legs.  If I am able to go faster and further then that just means that I will start to lose weight a lot faster.  I can already see it in my face that the fat is starting to come off.

If I can just keep doing this 3 days a week it wont be long before I'm thinner.  Oh and I need to start following the SparkPeople food plan again if I'm going to be successful.  The food they have is low calorie and very good for us especially for Chip because he has borderline diabetes now so whatever I make for myself I can make for him too then before you know it he will be losing weight too (but just on food, he doesn't want to exercise).

PlayStation Store

Well Sony finally finished the PlayStation store for the PSP.  Instead of buying stuff on their website they gave everyone Media Manager for PSP 3.0.  I bought Media Manager for PSP 2.0 for $20 or $25, I forgot.  But I guess it's ok because this is an upgrade and I don't have to pay to upgrade it.

If you have a PSP you don't need to use this to buy and download games.  All you do is just go online with the PSP and go to the PlayStation Store.  That is if you have WiFi access at home.  If you don't then you don't have any other choice than to use the Media Manager with a USB cable.  However if you want to buy/rent movies or tv shows you can only download them using the Media Manager.  They don't offer this feature on the PSP.  I've been looking at it since the firmware update.

The only problem with this is that in order to buy a lot of the games or movies/tv shows you must have more than just 1GB memory stick.  They offer 16GB from San Disk now and they really aren't that much money.  Some games and movies are more than just 1GB so you have to have a 4GB, 8GB or 16GB memory stick for those.  The good news is that you can transfer games/movies/tv shows to your computer or maybe to a dvd-r and when you aren't going to play the games or watch the movies etc you can just delete them from your memory stick so you can make room for other things.  Or if you have a disposible income just buy many memory sticks.

To Beach Park

Well, I finally made it to Beach Park today.  I feel so good about myself that I actually did it.  I also noticed that I'm riding a little faster because the time it took me to get there and back was a lot shorter than it took me to go less distance.

Ok so according to SparkPeople that is 5.4 miles total (to there and back, I mapped the directions out on google) and 720 calories.  The minimum amount of calories that I should burn in 1 day is 260, I mean for my diet plan, so I've exceeded that.  Which is totally awesome.

As I was riding the bike over the very high and very long bridge on Oak St. I was expecting that I wouldn't make it because the one other time I tried going over I didn't make it, I ended up having to stop and walk most of the way up.  But it wasn't so difficult this time.  Also when I was coming home I was riding on H st. on the street under the bridge and what I did was I just peddled so fast as I was going down so that when I had to start coming up I didn't have to peddle at all because I was already going so fast.

Anyway, my legs are swollen and painful so I'm gonna go lay down.

Cute dog pictures
